May they lift up their voices for understanding, and see... more »k for wisdom as for hidden treasures. May they remember thee, their Creator; and obey their parents in the Lord. Give them industry, temperance, and good-will. As they grow in years may they grow in favor with God and man. Do thou lead them by thy right hand. Shield them from trials too great for their virtue : and may their parents have the comfort of seeing them behave wisely and well here, and have the hope of their final acceptance in heaven. FOR A CHILD LEAVING HOME FOR SCHOOL. Source of all good influences, do thou be graciously present with thy young servant during his absence at school. May his life and health be precious before thee. Give him industry, faithfulness, and contentment; so that he may not Jose any of the benefits of instruction through indolence, obstinacy, or pride. May he cheerfully submit to the wise and friendly guidance of his superiors; and towards his equals, may he show a kind and forgiving temper. May his choice of companions fall on the pure and virtuous; andmay religion be so imbedded in his soul, that he shall, like the holy child Jesus, grow in heavenly wisdom as he grows in age. FOR A SICK PERSON, PRESENT OR ABSENT. Be merciful, O Lord, in a particular manner to a family into which thou hast permitted sickness to enter. Graciously support thy servant under thy afflicting hand. If it seem good in thy sight, make effectual the means used for his restoration. To thy supporting arm and to thy healing word we commend him. Let the life, endeared to us by nature and affection, be kindly spared.
