Catherine Steadman has written another killer book. Literally. This story of one families unlimited wealth and power goes from zero to one hundred in a very few short seconds. My reaction to most of what happens to Harriet is "just go away!" But when you're in love, well, I guess you ignore those big fat red flags everywhere. I'm all for family traditions but these people are certifiably wacky. I will admit that the ending took me a little by surprise. Enjoyable and fast paced, Ms Steadman has done it again.

This is the novel I intended to read when I "accidentally" read The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes in late November. Since The Family Game takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I wanted to read it during then.

If you think your family's holiday celebrations are dysfunctional or non-traditional, allow me to introduce you to the Holbeck family. Ultra rich, massively powerful, steeped in tradition. Harriet will marry into the family when she weds Edward Holbeck, but their holidays in no way resemble Norman Rockwell celebrations.

This is my first Catherine Steadman novel, and she expertly narrated the audiobook (which she apparently does for all of her books). It was over the top in every way which made the chapters fly by and concluded my holiday reading with a bang.

Thanks to the Currently Reading podcast for sharing the ideal season to read this thriller.
