Joe Leaphorn & Jim Chee return in Tony Hillerman's most intricate & atmospheric novel yet. The Navajo policemen, whose exploiits are now published in 16 languages, are brought together by the death of a man on Ship Rock, almost 1700 ft above the desert floor. the fallen man had sprawled on the ledge under the peak of Ship Rock mountain for 11 yrs - visited only by the ravens who had picked his bones bare & scattered his rock climbing gear. The fallen man, who had been given everything & found it was not enough. Ingeniously intricate plotting, splendid evocations of the Southwest's harsh beauty, insights into a venerable culture, & subtly poignant characterizations. Narrated by Gil Silverbird

I didn't know I like t.hillerman til this tale unfolded. Ingenously intricate plotting, splendid evocations of the Southwest's harsh beauty, insights into a venerable culture & characterizations that grab your belief. Who is the fallen man? One who had been given everything but nothing could satisfy him - what effect did it have on thos who surrounded him? Plan to listen straight through - nights in high desert mesas, environmental battles, wealth given & taken, love given & taken - is nothing sacred?
