I am so glad that I've actually played Halo 3 (and watched enough Star Trek) because I was actually able to understand most of the stuff that was going on in this book when it came to ships, weapons and the aliens. ;P The only bad thing about it was that it made me want to stop reading so I could go and play the game.

Overall, this was a good read and a must for any fan of the games because it gives you some background on Master Chief, Cortana, Spartans and earlier battles with the Covenant. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Both my son and I throughly enjoyed these books. We both enjoy the game on the X-box also, Not that I get very far in it without getting wasted. This book is a prelude to the story of 'Master chief' in the game. The next edition 'The Flood' follows the game plan 'more or less. both are great reads. If you like action you will like the books.

This is a great sci-fi book for the fan of the HALO game that might have any interest in learning about the origins of the characters from the game. It touches on where the Master Chief came from, the start of the Spartan program and the origins of both Cortana and Captain Keyes. It also includes the first battles of the Spartans and the Covenant. The book takes you up to where the first game actually starts.

Master Chief: Who he is, where he came from, how he became MC, the battles he fought. If you think this book will demystify John aka Master Chief, think again! You will know who he is as a human, the face behind the helmet, the fighting machine, and still be intrigued and mystified.

Eric Nylund writes a brilliant sci-fi novel that combines the mythology of the Spartans/Master Chief, the game lore of Halo, the mystery of the Covenant, the nightmare of the Flood, all mixed with fantastic sci-fi action and intrigue. Out of the majority of the Halo series I've read, I personally believe that Eric Nylund's novels are the most memorable.

You don't need to have played Halo to read and enjoy the book. But if do play and enjoy Halo, you should read this book - the whole series. Adds a whole new dimension to the Halo universe. Enjoy it!

A fun fast read. Even if you aren't into the halo games it's still a good easy sci fi read.. I read it in a day and I'm not a super fast reader. The action scenes are well done and alot of fun.

My sons are big fans of the Halo games, so I thought this book would interest them. They enjoyed it. They said it was exciting and interesting, and they are reading book 2 now. If you have a reluctant reader who likes the Halo games, give these books a try!

The Halo books are fun to read, and usually take me 2-4 days to get through. As a full time student, this is the type of book I read during summer or spring break to relax. Even if you're not into the video game, it's still a cool series.
