#5 Helewise/Josse medieval mystery set at Hawkenlye Abbey. Prince John makes an appearance in this book, paying Sir Josse a visit looking for a supposed criminal believed to be in the area, but Josse is suspicious because of the Prince's personal involvement. When the half-decomposed body of a young man several weeks dead is discovered near Hawkenlye, Josse wonders if there is a connection to the Prince's visit. Another mystery that the Abbess and the Knight, who is one of King Richard's retainers, must put their heads together to solve. There was a large flashback in time lasting several chapters where you went to about 50 years previous to the time of Josse's father Geoffroi, and I think that may be the reason I didn't like this book as well as the others in the series so far; it was distracting.

This is the fifth in a series about Abess Helewise and Josse d'Aquin as they solve murders in the middle ages.
