I enjoyed this one! It was Wild West without being too cowboy. I also enjoyed reading the quotes/song lyrics that accompanied each chapter. Stand Alone --I didn't even realize it was a sequel until I read the review below

Finding this new author is delightful; the story is engaging, with strong characters and original twists-and-turns. I'm out hunting for more stories by this gifted author. Unfortunately, the most recent book was published in 2003. Her work appears in collections as late as 2009.

Christal Van Alen has escaped an insane asylum and is wearing widow's weeds in her exodus to the Wyoming Territory. She must get away from the wanted posters and her evil uncle. She is traveling on a stagecoach when it is stopped by the notorious Macaulay Cain and henchmen. They abduct the passengers, planning to ransom them back to the stagecoach company.

The criminals are surprised that there is a woman aboard and quickly try to claim her for their own. However, Macaulay Cain will have none of this and even defies the leader of the gang. His stance makes things very dangerous for Christal and Cain; all the bandits want to kill Cain.

Telling more of the story may diminish the enjoyment of other readers. I thought the story was worth 4.5 stars. I did not know that this is the second of two books about the Van Alen sisters.
