What a great book! I've read the other reviews, and I know there are lots of opinions over the ending, the 5-pack series, that there was 'no plot', and 'no romance'.
Firstly, this is not a romance series, in the vein that other KMM novels have been. It is also a 5-part series, not a stand alone book, as other KMM novels have been. So, if you can put all that aside, and read the series for what it *is* instead of what it *isn't*, then you may fall in it as I have.
I finished the book a few days ago and I've been stewing about it since. For those who complained about the lack of plot, the plot is more subtle here .. but what does occur is still very important in pushing the plot forward to it's eventual conclusion. KMM has remarked that there is a lot of foreshadowing in this book. If you look at what did occur with this statement in mind, you may see the bigger picture of where she is going.
Some questions were answered (who is the Lord Master, what is in the book), some hints were given (V'lane's actions/reactions toward Barrons; V'lane's stories and side comments to Mac), and others were clearly made larger (what the heck/who the heck is Barrons; if you need the book, how/who will get it!)
In the end, what occurs (and I'm not talking about the mentioned 'gang rape' scene, but instead the events encompassing it) is integral to the series. Obviously this needed to occur in order for the series to move forward to it's final 2 books (and how painfully hard will it be to wait for those final 2 books!)

I started the first book (Darkfever) on a thursday and by sunday - I had read the first 3 books in the series. The story blends action, back story and celtic myths and history in a well paced and planned story. The action was nonstop and once the book was over, I needed to start the next and the next to know what happens. Mac is a great character that grows throughout the series - Her male protagonists are great (I want to know more about the mysterious Jericho Barrons and the fae prince, V'Lane). I have to get my hands on the next one ASAP. I highly recommend this series, you won't be able to put it down.

This is not a romance series like her other books, and I can honestly say that I, as an avid reader of all things romance, loved these books more than any of her others, or anyone else's. They are great. This book was touted as the "dark" book of the series, a turning point in the story arc, so lots of people didn't like it but I think it's great and am anxiously awaiting the next installment - which Ms. Moning announced today that she hopes to have it out in August of next year! I thought the book was great given the context. I was deeply disturbed by the ending and a little freaked out, but I understand the whys of it. The climactic point at the end where all "he**" breaks loose kind of reminded me of the Ghostbusters movie when the "portal" opens up and all the beastie monsters are running amok around NYC :)

I can't say I LIKE this series; however, I am compelled. The story is so horrible that I MUST keep reading to see what will happen. She is promised joy, but how long (how many books must I read) will it take to find out. This series is more like a Tootsie Pop to me - I'd like to bite right to the end. Drawing it out is not enjoyable.

3rd book in the Fever Series, it's Mac's darkest hour. The first half of the book initially seems to be just review but on closer inspection, as in the other books, KM Moning hides clues in the smallest of situations. The second half, Mac's world starts to unravel and by the end you realize the author isn't pulling her punches. This book can not stand alone and must be read in its proper sequence or it can be terribly misunderstood. It's the changing point for Mac. Upon re-read and closer scrutiny of clues, it is a changing point for Barrons as well. This story couldn't be told any other way really and Mac will emerge a totally different person. Barrons must examine his reason for existance. He remains a mystery but by paying close attention to details, there are very telling clues. Moning is making Mac work for her HEA as she's making her fans work for clues and understanding.
Readers must keep in mind this is a series and a single book can not tell the story of Macayla Lane, Jericho Barrons, Lord Master, The Unseelie King...it's epic. Hang in there.

Unlike her Highlander series, this is not a romance series. It's interesting, and I'm hooked, but it's also frustrating. She is an awesome writer, but she leaves the reader hanging at the end of each novel with nothing really resolved. I wished I would have waited until all of the books were out before starting the series. I don't have the patience to wait a year to find out the ending from what I understand to be the 5th and final book.
Have you ever done a Sudoku puzzle that was so hard you could place maybe 5 numbers? Well, that's what I feel like with this book/series. It's a big hard puzzle with no answer in the back, you know, to give you just a little help. While I like to sit back and enjoy a story, I still like the adventure of Mac and this journey that KMM has taken her on. However, my advice to anyone that has not started the series would be not to bother reading the series until all books are out. It looks like Dreamfever won't be out until August of 2009, that's a long time. Some reviewers are pissed off at how the story ended. I am not happy about it, but it's the writer telling the story. Did she want our hearts to drop while reading THAT? I think so, and mine did. I hope more info gets pumped into the next book, I like the characters, I like the story, but sometimes puzzles are too much and you have to set them aside for another day. That day may be when all books are available. I probably won't do that, because I know myself, but I am a bit frustrated.

I don't want to ruin the series for anyone who still hasn't read it so this review will be short just like my previous ones for this series.
I am officially a fan of Mac and her Mac Halo <<< loved it. Just when I thought the girl couldn't get any more badass..she does, and as each book progresses her character grows into something to be reckoned with.
V'lane - so far I only thought Barrons was complicated but we get to learn a whole lot more about V'lane in Faefever and he is way more complex then what I thought.

I loved this entire series so much that I couldn't put them down once I'd started reading. It took me a bit to keep some of the characters and who/what they were straight in my mind but maybe that's just me. Either way, it didn't interfere at all with my enjoyment of the book, or any of the other books in this series. I loved them and wished they could have gone on and on!

This is one intense series of stories about the the good and bad Fae, and one woman trying to figure out how to help and not die while still wanting revenge for her sisters death. All of these Fae books end with cliff hanger stories, and then you have to wait endless hours, days, months until the next (FOURTH) book comes out. The author does skip time like nothing interesting could happen, which as a reader I found those skips irritating. This third book has such a cliff hanger ending that I'm grateful I put off reading it until today (it was a quick read), now I only have to wait until August to find out if Dublin has really been totally taken over by the shades, and if Mac survives sex with 3 death BY sex Fairy Princes. It's quite a tale, but start with the first book, I DON'T THINK THIS SERIES OF BOOKS STAND ALONE BUT BUILD.

This is the third book in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. There are five books planned for this series and the fifth book "Shadowfever" is scheduled to release in January of 2011. I liked this book best of all the books in the series so far. Mac grows so much as a character and the situation in the book gets incredibly difficult. Again the ending is a cliffhanger that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
This book starts out exactly where Bloodfever left off, with Mac on her knees in an alley fighting the sickness brought on by that evil book The Sinsar Dubh. This book finds things in Dublin growing more desperate. Mac decides to strike out on her own and form her own alliances so that she isn't so dependent on Barron. She cuts deals with the seelie seers, the local police, the Druids, and even V'lane. She doesn't know who to trust but hopes that with all her alliances she may be able to save the city of Dublin and even keep herself alive. The question is will it be enough? Or will the walls between the human and the Unseelie world come crashing down, ending humanity as we know it?
This was a wonderful book. Mac does so much more than she has done in the previous books. We learn a lot about a lot of things. Finally Mac is figuring out how to track the Sinsar Dubh on her terms and she is creating alliances that she has some control in. We get to spend a lot more time with V'lane and Dani in this book and they are two great characters. We don't learn much more about Barron in this book; he is in the story in spurts but remains as much of a mystery as ever.
This book really brings things to a head between the Unseelie and the rest of the world. It is incredibly engaging as Mac and crew are constantly racing against time. It was a very hard book to put down and the best of the series. There is a ton of action in this book; in fact Mac rarely gets a break. Rainbow Mac starts to give way to a new Mac who is struggling to maintain her identity.
The end of the book is a killer cliffhanger. You will be dying to know what will happen next. I have been happy that I had all four books on hand because they just end so...well...horribly... I think if I was reading these books as they were released I would be pissed. So, I have one more book to read "Dreamfever" and then I will have to wait for "Shadowfever" with everyone else.
Overall this has been a consistently good series. The books just keep getting better and better. We are really starting to see what Mac can do, and the interesting characters that encompass this world just keep getting more interesting. I loved it and am reading the next book in the series already.

I found some things in the book disturbing. I can't say that I liked it because I'm a "Happily Ever After" kind of person. I'm getting frustrated with not knowing what Barron's is and his jealousy of V'lane (eventhough he won't admit it). I wish Mac could get more answers. Despite the fact that this book bothered me, I'll still probably read the next installment because now I'm obsessed with finding out what happens to Mac... especially after the ending of this book.

I love this series. It's dark and compelling. It just sucks you in and before you know it you've finished it and are wondering why the next book isn't out yet so you can just keep on reading. Its definiately addicting.

I could not put this book down. I read it in one night.Very fast paced and the ending leaves me wanting to go buy Dreamfever in the hardback, there is no way I can wait for the Paperback to come out.

This book was amazing. I was trapped inside of it for all 314 pages. It took me longer than I expected to read partly because I wanted to savor it.
The author brings an unsavory world to your eyes easily without forcing it down your throat. The mean and ugly streets of Dublin were easy for me to visualize. She writes Mac's feelings so intensely you can almost feel what it's like to kick some big nasty evil fairy's butt.
The main character and many secondary characters grew throughout this book becoming even more real and well rounded than they were to begin with. Some frustratingly did not.
There is absolutely nothing bad to say about this book. Ms. Moning has almost stopped the annoying foreshadowing that she was doing in the first book and some in the second. This book was like just living someone else life as if it were my own.

Beginning a new series with a new author is always a gamble, the MacKaylaa Lane series is worth the risk! I was pulled into the story from book one!

I am hooked on this series. Reading the last book of the series now and can't put it down. The author draws you in with the first book and it just keep getting better with each book. Love this series!!

This 3rd book in the MacKayla Lane series is about change and perserverance. Mac is faced with new threatening challenges that push her vulnrability to the brink of shut down. The ending of this story is really disturbing, but in a series that bases itself on death by sex fae, one can expect something as tramatic to threaten the main character. A necessary evil which reveals itself in the next book of the series Dreamfever.
I thought this book moved a bit slow. I actually put it down and walked away for several weeks before deciding I needed to finish. The push pull relationships between V'lane, Barrons and Mac became stale. Thankfully the story picked up towards the end. Great series, with a driven philosophy that I like.

That was all I could think after finishing Faefever. Not to give anything away but that is some hell of a cliffhanger!

The world is falling apart and only a handfull of people even know about it.
In the third of the series is where it all comes to a head. Mac has had it coming from all sides for some time now and she has only been able to tread water. While the fourth book is going to be a long wait and so many things going wrong in the third I am almost inclined to tell you to wait and read the third closer to August. Like already stated, it might be easier to read them once they have all been released just so you won't have to endure the frustration us impatient folks are now going though! But timeline aside, yeah, you should totally read this.

I feel like this series could have been one large book, but in order to make more money they have divided it into five hardcovers. There are multiple pages at the end devoted to all the different websites/online communities you can join. This is the middle book of the five-part Fever series and it's not a stand alone book. You need to have read the first two books in the Fever series or you'll be really confused. Middle books sometimes don't please readers because they aren't world building as the first book nor into tying up loose ends like the last book. I really enjoyed this book. Having said that, I'll also say this book is dark. It has to be that way though. Mac is changing and she has to change. She can't be the fluffy, pink, rainbow-loving, ditzy girl she once was. The ending is a major cliffhanger, but if you read the book carefully, you'll see a lot of foreshadowing by the author. I think the last scene had to happen. It's the way Mac becomes the darker, stronger heroine she has to be. I also think it's the catalyst Barrons needs to be more forthright with his feelings.

Awsome! Mac has changed quite a bit from the 1st book, Darkfever. But there are still little glimmers of Mac 1.0 (as she calls her "past" self) that show up from time to time. Does she make the right choices all the time? no. But she is a human facing a very difficult path and is trying to navigate it in the best way she knows how, with the knowledge that she is given ~ which is not much and only given in small spurts. Also, I am a big fan of Jericho Barrons ~ there is just something about him.

5 STARS!!!! This book......no, this SERIES, is incredible. I haven't found such page turning, emotional, well writen dramatic fiction in a LONG time! This was such a carefully crafted book. Each entry of the series keeps you hanging on until you get to the next one. It recaps where you left off and pours you in running for the next dramatic climax.
The ending of this book is sadly moving and leaves you truly feeling for Mac. I can't wait for book four (and now I hear there's a fifth??? LOVING THIS!!)...

Ok, so, the only reason I ended up finishing this, and the only reason that I will be reading the next book is because a co-worker keeps telling me the series gets better.
I started reading this series because I had previously read KMM's Highlander series and loved it. The first book was decent, the second book seemed like a filler, and this book? Well, I got through it. For me, this series just isn't going anywhere.

The whole premise of this book is that the wall between Faery and the human world is thinning almost to the point of breaking, and when it does, all hell will break loose, in the manner of every kind of unsavory fae possible. But not a whole lot happens in the book overall.

I'm going to continue on with the next book because my co-worker says the series gets better. But at this point, I'm thinking if I don't like it yet, I'm not going to.
I started reading this series because I had previously read KMM's Highlander series and loved it. The first book was decent, the second book seemed like a filler, and this book? Well, I got through it. For me, this series just isn't going anywhere.

This book had a cliff hanger ending that left me wanting to read book 4 asap!!! After there being no actual sex in the first two books, this one caught me off guard when Mac finally does have sex, and who it is with! I am excited that book five will come out in December of 2010 as I have been reading this series for three years now and finally after all the waiting I can't wait to see how it all ends. I hope the final book ties up all the lose ends and tells who is on who's side, as through out the series Mac never really has any one to trust and it would be nice to see who stands by her and who is using her.
Anything written by KMM gets an automatic 5 star rating. SHe is fantastic- totally draws you into her world, and before you know it, she'll have you wondering whether that time you thought you tripped over your own feet- you actually did. Or was it something else?
I am flabbergasted! All I can say is READ THIS SERIES!!!!!! I am on day 4 of my "Fever" binge. I started the series four days ago and already I'm devouring "Dreamfever".
This book had a killer ending. Just when you think you've figured out Moning's characters and plot, she pulls a fast one on you and you are left bewildered. This series is soooooo addicting! I don't know what I am going to do when I finish the 4th book. Her last and final book wont be out til Dec. 2010....what will I do?

I have been reading Ms.Moning's books since they came out. This is her best yet. I did not expect the ending to this. I hope she keeps on in this series so much left unsaid and undone..
REally good book. I stayed up until 2:30 am reading it. I highly recommend you read this series in order. Very curious to see what Barrons ends up being. I saw at the end of the book that Twentieth Century Fox picked up the options. It would make a great series, I don't think a movie would do it justice.
These books pretty much defy reasonable description. For some reason I love them. I ended up giving this one 4.5 stars for shear entertainment value.
If you aren't already familier with the series, I strongly suggest starting from the beginning with Darkfever--I don't think any of these books stand alone well at all. Assuming, that you have read the first two I'll skip right past the basic description of plot and try to explain what I felt this book was about. Basically, Mac is conflicted and alone. She is no longer sure if she can trust anyone. From Barrons, the enigmatic book store owner, to V'Lane the Seelie prince, to Dani and she other sidhe-seers, everyone wants Mac's help and on some level, want to control her. But Mac has developed self-sufficiency, maturity, and the ability to keep her own council--basically she's loyal only to herself and her cause. That is, she wants to protect the human population from a mass Unseelie invasion, and she wants revenge for her sister. When she learns that on Halloween, the walls of the Unseelie prison will be in very serious danger of falling and allowing all of them to enter the human world, she takes some pretty extreme measures to survive.
To me this book really showed how Mac has grown and, well, darkened as a person. From shifting loyalties and morals, to her struggle to hold onto whateve small color and happiness she can find, it's impossible not to like her. The cast of characters around her, few of whom are clearly good or evil, are varied, complex, and fascinating. The world that Moning has build is fascinating and bone chillingly creepy. The little touches of humor don't hurt either. With rainy Dublin as a backdrop, the plot races along to a most unexpected end.
Now, the book ends on a monumental cliff-hanger, of the everything going to hell in a hand-basket variety. How you feel about it will probably depend on taste (I know some people hate any cliff-hanger at all). And yes, frankly, having the book end with a climax rather then a resolution is a bit off putting. That's probably my most pressing criticism for this book. But it served it's purpose for me--I can't wait to read the next book.
If you like dark urban fantasy, I highly recommend this series.

Great book and a great series! I finished it last night and, like others, found the ending disturbing and it left me a little depressed. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Great story, but don't read even the first page if you are a compulsive reader... you won't be able to wait for books 4 and 5!!

This entire series is amazing. It gives such a vivid picture that keeps you on the edge of your seat and flipping the pages.Each character are likeable but each have issues of their own all at the same time.
I love listening to these books on CD since I'm not creative enough to give the characters different voices. I'm really happy I waited until all 5 books were out. I would have been pretty crabby to not have the next book on hand. I'm completely sucked into this world and gave this 4 1/2 stars. Great series.
I am not a big fan of sci-fi fantasy. This book did not change my opinion.

I couldn't get past the first chapter. I had not read the other books in the series, and I had no understanding of what was happening. I intensely disliked this book.
This is the third book in the Fever series. My review is for the entire series. I picked up the first book with no idea what I was getting into. I thought it was just another paranormal romance. The plot sounded intriguing. I ended up reading the whole series in 5 days...and then starting over to reread it. I read through it so fast the first time I missed some twists and clues. Well, and I just was so consumed I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I have no idea why this series is so addictive. I don't typically read romance novels, and actually had no clue when I started that this was one. I could have done without the detailed sex scenes. I'm just one of those readers who likes to leave more to the imagination. But the plot and characters sucked me in. Like everyone else I became enamored with Barrons. Who was this man? I still feel some things were left unanswered but I'm okay with that...for now. So, I advise you start this series when you don't have much else going on. Be prepared to be a little obsessed.

I hated the ending of this book in the series as it is about Mac being gang raped by 3 unseelie death by sex princes. I detest it when authors resort to rape in their story. There's enough violence in this series as it is without this. Ms. Moning should have developed another way for the Lord Master to gain control of her.
