Surprisingly, gray wolves are in North America and Asia. They mate once per year and stay with their mate for life. They have four to six pups. Another surprise was the breadth of their territories. They are comfortable in tundra, forests, arid deserts, and prairies. They live five to nine years in the wild and about six years longer if kept in zoos.

The wolf is a meat-eater and usually attacks animals larger than itself. They can run up to five MPH. They have few natural enemies other than man. They are not kept as pets because they are aggressive and want to go out and kill.

We had a Siberian Husky for years, and he had many traits similar to wolves. He would howl at the moon and often sang to get the attention of other dogs. Since his forebearers had been domesticated generations earlier, he accepted food rather than chased it alone.
