Although thought to be extinct (only fossils found in caves), they have been sighted in Panama and Costa Rica. They are hard to see. They have names such as Vinegar, Water Dogs, and Forest Dogs. Their urine smells like vinegar. They can run between nine and twelve MPH.

They are related to canines and are active during the day. They are in packs of up to twelve dogs. The mature pair mate and the others are juveniles. An unusual feature is the webbed feet. They are carnivorous and eat rodents and other common prey on the forest floor.

Bush Dogs are in the "Near Threatened" category, meaning they are near to becoming endangered. They do not make good pets. About 15,000 are estimated to be left in the world.
