nyone who thinks this book is not useful has obviously not lived through a weather disaster. If you don't think Tornadoes, Hurricanes and flash floods are related to weather than you are ignorant. Unfortunately, by the time you may want to "google" something or watch it on the news it is too late. Reading personal experiences about people who have been through these horrific experiences has brought the actuality of them home. I felt this book "cut to the chase" without many of the myths associated with extreme weather. Having an book in hand as a reference serves as a constant reminder to be prepared, and that extreme weather can happen anytime - anywhere. If the people of New Orleans had been more educated before the aftermath of Katrina, things would have turned out differently. Although nothing can prepare you for the sound of a tornado(which is terrifying) knowing what to really do when it strikes is priceless. BTW - standing in a doorway is NOT comforting! I live in a big city and never expected a tornado to hit. My children are fascinated with weather so I bought this book to read with them. Knowing they feel more empowered and have a better understanding of the situations that can occur is a big comfort. We cannot control the unpredictability of weather, but we can certainly control how we react to it.
