Author Pamela Clare has called on her own experiences as an investigative reporter to write a stunning romantic suspense story that takes you into the world of corruption, high stakes government, and reckless abuse of power. A story that's part romance, part action-adventure, and part police procedural, EXTREME EXPOSURE is a roller-coaster ride that will have you turning pages long into the night.

For single mother Kara McMillan, finding a man hasn't been a top priority for several years. The only problem is that her body is urging her otherwise, and Kara has to admit that five years without a man-and without sex-has been about five years too long. Her friend Holly's advice? Go to a bar, have a few drinks, find someone you want to spend the night with, and make your intentions known. For Kara, whose life has revolved around nothing but her son, Connor, and her job, journalism, Holly's advice is easier said than done.

Unfortunately-or fortunately, depending on how you look at it-after one too many margaritas in that bar crowded with fine male specimens, a man enters who has all of Kara's juices flowing-the private and the professional ones. State Senator Reece Sheridan is a man to be admired, feared, or lusted after; depending on which side you fall upon. For Kara, this smooth-talking, well-dressed man who could be a male model is a cause for alarm-he gets her bells ringing, and it's been a long, long time since that happened.

A drunken conversation about sex in a crowded bar somehow leads to an invitation for a date, and Kara finds herself growing more and more attracted to Reece. And as their relationship develops to the next level, Kara finds herself on the other side of the newspaper for once-there's a lot of public interest in her relationship with the Senator, not all of it good. Someone is urging her to investigate her lover in something more sinister than having Reece get to know her son; something, in fact, that might have Reece Sheridan as a government official abusing his power in the Senate, and doing things that are strictly illegal-not to mention dangerous.

Suddenly both their reputations are on the line-Reece's as a Senator, Kara's as a reporter and a mother. Can the fact that their growing attraction, admiration, and respect have grown even deeper save them from the storm of bad publicity around them? And why is someone so desperate to see Reece Sheridan removed from the Senate?

Kudos to Ms. Clare for such a great story! An innovative and intriguing story line made better by real life characters, EXTREME EXPOSURE is a hot, sexy novel that has enough twists and turns to keep everyone satisfied. Romantic suspense that's heavy on details that only a true reporter would know, I highly recommend this book.

A fun, easy read. I liked that this featured investigative journalism. Something a bit different. Ties together nicely (of course).

3.5/5.0

Gosh, I love Pamela Clare, but I just can't make myself get 5 star excited over this particular book. I originally thought it would be because the characters were a senator (Reece, the hero) and a reporter (Kara, the heroine) neither of which are professions that would naturally get my suspense juices pumping. As it turns out, however, I really enjoyed the way Clare portrayed both the characters and their professions realistically yet sympathetically. I was able to see a side to both occupations that I could really admire.

I admired Kara's devotion to her son and her career. One is able to see and understand her love for each while experiencing her heart-rending struggle to balance both and always feeling like she is falling short. In Reece we are reminded of the human side of a much maligned profession. We see the honest, good reasons a person chooses to pursue public office and how hard it is to stay true to oneself while juggling for the better good. I came away enlightened in both aspects.

It was the topic of the suspense and how it played out that I had trouble buying into. Maybe because of all the attention books and movies such as Erin Brockovich has garnered over the past few years that the subject matter seemed somewhat old hat (*yawn*). The pace plugged along rather slowly and the final confrontation was a little (ok, a lot) unbelievable. Let's face it, researching environmental waste - while very important - just isn't horribly exciting or even particularly interesting to read about as a journalist researches and gradually uncovers waste and corruption. It's a long process.

The upside is, throughout this long process is we get to see the relationship between Reece and Kara develop into a deep and meaningful love. With Kara's past, that took time, also. We are allowed the opportunity to progress, along with Kara as she struggles to overcome her fear of relationships and we learn to love Reece as we participate in his commitment to be patient and show Kara the love she needs.

There! The good and the bad! If one is still debating, consider the abundance of steam (which Clare writes so well.) If you like it - this is a keeper. If you don't - you should probably try something else. :)

Very good book. Kara is a newspaper journalist on to a big story. Her life is threatened. She is an unwed mother with a 4 year old son. She meets Reece in a bar one night and her life becomes a roller coaster. Between her story and her love life things get interesting. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. Hard Evidence.

I found myself without any books to read so I ran up to the bookstore and came across this author. Bought the first two books in this series not really expecting much. I was SO caught up in this book that I didn't put it down until I finished it. This author is awesome! She catches your interest on page one and never lets it go. The characters are funny, deep, and you find yourself cheering for them. I haven't been this impressed with a book in quite some time so I'm very excited to read the rest in the series. Pamela Clare just moved to being one of my favorite authors!!!!!!

This was a very good story. It's not my usual type, but Reese and Kara were a hot, engaging couple while the plot was exciting, quick-paced, and easy to follow. I was a little disappointed that the romance took a back seat to the investigation/big corporation coverup plot, but this book was packed with terrific writing. 4 stars.

From the back cover-With his dangerous good looks, charm and power, Senator Reece Sheridan could have just about any woman he sets his piercing eyes on. But he's intrigued by only one, Kara, a gutsy investigative reporter. She has a sensuality that arouses him to no end. If she's a firebrand in print, he guesses, she must be just as fiery in bed...

Sparks fly when a hardboiled reporter meets a handsome senator. But a political scandal-and attempts on her life-could drive them apart. Or maybe adversity could draw them into a bond even more intense than their steamy sexual embraces. This leads up to Tessa and Julian's story. Great book.

This is Clare's first contemporary romance novel... and you can tell. She's trying to hard. It took her until almost the end of the book to finally settle into this area of the genre. I thought she was too vulgar and explicit at the beginning. Which was not good considering I started reading this on an airplane as I was flying to my chosen Spring Break destination - Las Vegas. There was more that one moment where I flat out guffawed loudly on the early morning flight. Purple jiggly stick?!? Come on now.

I will certainly continue to read this series but, so far, I don't find it nearly as good as her historicals. Also, summary writer... you neglected to say it was a State Senator. I was expecting the book to be set in Washington,DC not Colorado.
