Definitions of critical terms such as "racism" and "discrimination" lack any analytic rigor, and indeed are often contrived concepts designed not to judge fairly but simply to justify an end. Historical accounts of racism and the achievements of minorities, as described in official Army publications, are at the least skewed, if not patently false. After considerable groundwork, the author finds that the Army's affirmative action program is an illegal form of discrimination. The book closes with the author's suggestions for remedying the Army's race-related programs, which will make both the Army and the American life in general more even-handed on the difficult matter of race. The controversial material is not presented in a partisan or polemical manner.
