James Rollins' books push the boundaries of the believable -- and I love them! This book, however, was so unbelievable that it bordered on being ridiculous. Nor did I like the romantic relationships that developed simultaneously between the uncle and his former college sweetheart and between the nephew and his fellow researcher. One romantic relationship would have been enough. Two seemed cheesy.

You like archeological digs and ancient history? How about a novel that brings in both of those, then tosses in a chase and a search for buried (well something). Very readable. Good story. A page turner

Enjoyable fast paced read. Again contains a story line that you need the ability to suspend your need for reality. I found it fun and intertaining, certainly a page turner. He does imploy the style of story telling that follows 1st one set of characters and just when they are in jeopardy skips to another set of charaters. I'll be reading more of his books, they are a great "bus" read (I commute to work).

Fabulous book recommended by Douglas Preston, co-author of Relic. Very suspenseful story that hopefully will be turned into a movie at some point!

This was the first James Rollins book I ever read and man was it a good one. It captured me from in the first several pages and I never wanted to put it down. I would recommend it for anyone who loves suspense and horror. A lot of great archaeological facts in there as well.

A good adventure story. In the vein of Cussler, but a bit more fantastical (a little sci-fi here and there). I enjoyed it.

Rollins books are fun, well researched and well written. A little 'out there' in terms of believable plot, but that's ok. Like I said, they are fun to read.

Henry, the brilliant archaeologist has discovered a possable excavation site for an Incan village. While back in the states to have a mummy evaluated his nephew Sam and his other students continue on the dig site.
Meanwhile a little know sect of the Catholic Church is murdering there way to the same site and is ready to wipe out Sam and the other students for reasons of their own !
Inside the cave are secrets both miraculous and terrifying !
This book is a Real Page Turner from page one. It is sort of a combination of Indiana Jones and the TV show Fringe . I loved it !

Terrific read! Clive Cussler style adventure with scary Sci-Fi eeriness thrown in. Up until reading this book my only modern adventure reading had been limited to Clacy, Ludlum & Cussler. James rollins is a very welcome and original change of pace, my new favorite author! Blend Clive Cussler with Keith Laumer and you've got Rollins.

What can I say I believe I have found one of my new favorite Authors. I am always in for an action pack adventure story but James Rollins always seems to add in a twist of super natural plots as well. Left me on the edge of my seat and is most definitely a must read.

Wow! One more excellent story by Mr. Rollins. Another page turner, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat page by page. I envy authors like Mr. Rollins - just how do they come up with these wonderful, exciting stories?
Highly recommended!

Another fantastic book, I absolutely love this author, don't know how I didn't hear of him till a few months ago. If you are into pyramids, lost cities and mysterious substances that come from imagination but could be ripped from the pages of laboratories around the world, and the brilliance to throw this altogether then this is the author for you. Oh, and there is always an underlying romantic thread throughout his tales. This one throws some religious fiction and fanatacism into the mix as well. Great book!

It was a bit far fetched even for me and I thought more of the characters should have died. I mean seriously, you just can't go through as much as they did and not have more people die.

Oh well, still really like James Rollins books and his writing style and will continue to read his works!

I love James Rollins novels, but this one is not his best. I had just finished Amazon and in comparison this novel is not his best work. However it is very good. The archeological details kept me reading the book as well as the dangers that the characters face as they try to survive the travails of this action adventure. The concept of the lost tribe is not unique, or of valuable treasures being found, but the plot is not as realistic as some of the others that he has woven. I have read almost all of his others and the Sigma series is definitely my favorite.

This book starts out with the finding of a mummy in an Incan ruins. It's sent back to the states for study while the rest of the crew stay todo more excavating. There of the men helping, decides to find the treasure first & sell the riches they find. Only two of them end up getting killed in a trap. The other excapes but throws a grenade in the tunnel on his way out, trapping some of the others. They must find a way out or die. What they find is astounding.
I liked this book very much. All of James Rollins books are good reads & would make good movies.

Fun and fantastical story sprinkled with history and science and set in an exotic location outside of Cuzco, Peru. The hero and his uncle are both Texas A&M graduates. Both have love interests, and there is a great blend of supporting characters as well.

If you've seen any of the Indiana Jones movies, the opening of this book will feel familiar. Then add in some dangerous monsters and some historico-scientific oddities, and you've got this James Rollins novel. Highly readable but not very plausible.

This is a page turner about archeaology, lost Incan cities, graves, gold and death. It seemed very real, but not too technical.
gsisk avatar reviewed Excavation on + 193 more book reviews
Very trite "adventure/treasure hunt" story:
Archeologists discover mysterious Incan ruins, complete with a mysterious metal, follow the trail to an unknown village with mysterious inhabitants. Meanwhile the evil Church is hot on their trail.
Full of holes, just suspend logical thinking and enjoy a typical page turner.
A few gratuitous advertisements are also thrown in, also some tame sexual innuendos.
Could have been better, but appears to have been written for a quick buck.

Personal copy - never been swapped! This book is a follow-on to Subterranean (also posted). Book was exciting and fast paced with all the expected elements...... adventure, archaelogical discovery, some romance (for the ladies), and just plain ol fun! If oyu enjoy Indiana Jones movies, you'll feel right at home with this book

Little preview: We find ourselves joining an archaelogical dig at an ancient Incan site. It turns out that a mummy found at the site is actually a Spanish Priest. Hmmmmmmm!!

Rather than spending all your time underground (like in Journey to the Center of the Earth), you find yourself immersed in history, Incan legends, secret societies, and plenty of action and suspense!

The main suspense comes from those who would wish to gain something from this Incan site, and the legend of "Satan's Blood", an almost magical substance that holds the key to an age-old secret plan.

This is probably a one sitting book, it's hard to walk away from it once you've started!

Enjoy it!
