Outstanding research by author who is son of the man he builds the case against. Though a lot is circumstantial, the evidence piles up, thus proving (in my mind) that Dr George Hodel was in fact the Black Dahlia Avenger, the Lipstick Killer, and the Zodiac. Police departments in Chicago, LA, and San Francisco failed to cooperate in any way that could prove the link between these serial killers of bygone decades. Includes many pages of photographs, letters sent by the killer to authorities and newspapers, and handwriting experts' analyses.

A fascinating read for those interested in true crime, particularly The Black Dahlia and Zodiac cases. Though the Zodiac sections rely heavily on circumstantial and handwriting analysis evidence, it makes a strong case. To be fair, the author DOES state as much and hopes DNA evidence will be released & examined in future (perhaps if there is public pressure). The only negative to the book - long, boring passages detailing the handwriting comparisons; however, these are necessary to the case evidence. On the plus side - there are lots of detailed photographs, very helpful to the reader - you can see and surmise for yourselves.

I was doubtful that someone could get so much information that they could blame them for such murders. But Steve does a wonderful job to provide evidence, pictures, and letters from Dr. Hodel. All this stacks up well against Dr. Hodel, if only the departments would have more Steve Hodels. Very great book which makes it an easy read.
