This is a wonderful book full of fun, and complete with a suprise ending! The story is well written, and you get a feel for the main character's somewhat hectic life. A little girl loses both of her parents at sea, yet refuses to admit that they are dead. After living with a neighbor for some time, she is relocated to her uncle's house. Every chapter in this book is followed by a recipe - my favorite, and the reason I had to get this book is the "Cherry Pie Porkchops." (Better than you think.) My ten year old is enjoying this book as much as I am.
This Newberry Honor Book by acclaimed children's author Polly Horvath is a classic. Melissa, Amanda, and Frank (Pee Wee) Anderson's parents must leave them to go to Paris. When their babysitter falls through, their Aunt Sally, whom they have never met, comes from Canada. She's a fun-loving, entertaining character, and best of all she knows all kinds of stories about their family growing up on Vancouver Island.

This fast moving story was delightful. The characters were believable and I never lost hope for the little girl. I loved the recipes and have tried some. The whole experience was down to earth and fun. A good way to introduce your daughter to trying new recipes.
