I absolutely loved this book. I laughed out loud more times than I can count, and snickered throughout. I am baffled by the comments that it was "whiny." I found it charming and I'm not sure I can continue living without Mindy Kaling being my best friend.

This is a fun book if you like Mindy Kaling. It's kind of like spending the week with her.

If you have a sense for Mindy Kaling's voice--and sarcasm--already, this will be an enjoyable read. That's especially true if you ever wondered how celebrities get those major "lucky" breaks which make them household names. I've read it a few times now and always enjoy it.

A very quick read. Kaling writes with intelligence and self-deprecation, owning her insecurities while poking fun at them.

I expected more. Didn't really find this very funny.

This book was cute and funny, but one cannot help but draw a comparison to Tina Fey's book "Bossypants". They have a lot of similar background and audience, so it is hard not to compare the two. And it is even harder to top Ms Tina who is essentially the most amazing female and comedian in the world right now. I find Mindy's style and voice a lot more appealing after watching her show, The Mindy Project, rather than the Office. I can see her talent and point of view so much more, which made this book much funnier. On the Office she was so one-note, and I think if I had only seen her in that show and then read this book, I would have had Kelly Kapoor's voice narrating it which would have literally drove me insane.

In the book, she jumps around so much in time and subject that it is difficult to follow. She has clearly never written anything in a continuous storyline/book form. This is essentially a book of humorous and embarrassing anecdotes, but certainly not a memoir or story in any sense. She is funny though, you have to give the girl that.

As much as I love Mindy Kaling, this book was extremely boring. Her new show is much more enjoyable than this. It almost felt as if she tried way too hard to make this book funny, but there were only a few select parts.

I loved it, light, humorous, and a funny autobiography of Mindy.

I've had this on my radar for awhile. Noticed the library had this on Overdrive audio and thought "I need to give that a try." So I listened to this on my commute this past week., narrated by Mindy Kaling herself. I found myself laughing out loud, she's got an excellent sense of humor. I'm a year older (yes, I'm turning 40 in April, holy shit!), so we can of age about the same time. Best of all, she came across as someone I can relate to. Bonus: she's nice, intelligent, talented, and opinionated.
Bossypants is next!

I didn't want this book to end. I laughed, I cried (I know, it's cliche and a little embarrassing) but Mindy simply detailing her list of non-dramatic things that make her cry made ME cry when I identified with so many of them!

Ultimately, this book was almost impossible for me to put down and it made me laugh more than any book I've read before. I love you Mindy. Please write me more things to read.

Funny and relatable. If you are a fan on Mindy and know her work from the Office, and The Mindy Project, you can really her voice coming though in the book.

I don't want to start playing the "comedienne memoir favorite game" but I have read exactly two, and the other one was Tina Fey's and this is my second favorite comedienne memoir I've ever read. I don't feel bad about that either, because I kind of feel like Mindy herself would think "yeah, that's fair".

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading this book, I genuinely did! I love Mindy Kaling so much. You have no idea how much. But strangely we have very little in common. She is very big into things like fashion and makeup and dropping comments about how not a big deal her weight/body size is two chapters after off-handedly talking about exercising. These are things I've never really understood, this kind of conspicuous femininity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, it's just not something I can identify with. I think I might have been called a "tomboy" once or twice as a kid but mostly it's always been a case of "I don't give a fu**". I'll wear a skirt if I feel like it (I rarely feel like it) and I'll dress like I only shop at Walmart if that's the kind of mood I'm in. Sometimes I wear makeup to work, sometimes I can't be bothered. I get the feeling like Mindy Kaling would have trouble with these things. But I digress.

The thing is, I enjoy Mindy's comedy, and I think that's the reason why she wrote this book. To showcase her brand of personal comedy. And I really enjoyed that. I also noticed she is working on a follow-up book and I will be first in line to buy it (or on the reserve list at the library, I don't know, it depends if I'm a poor student again by the time it comes out).

Fun and funny, and a sweet quick read. I liked it and gave it to my sister to enjoy, and she did too!

I highly recommend this audio book. I listened to it on an eight hour ride to the beach, and it made the ride so much more enjoyable because I laughed the whole way there. Mindy Kaling is witty, carasmatic, and a brilliant comedy writer. I related well to so many of her essays.

I enjoyed it. It dragged a bit in the beginning but I hung in there and it picked up.

I feel this book is aimed at high school age girls, but can be read by adults as well.

I laughed out loud many times (in my car, alone) while listening to Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? written and read by Mindy Kaling. This was a perfect palate cleanser after several long and âserious' audiobooks.

Audio is the perfect way to read this collection of short, very personal essays - it felt like I was running errands with a smart, funny friend as my passenger. The essay topics range from Mindy's teen years, friendships, and career, to the virtues of male chest hair.

Published in 2011, the essays don't sound dated except for a few references to her Blackberry. This is pre-motherhood and The Mindy Project so those topics aren't addressed.

If you haven't read this and are in the mood for a short humorous non-fiction audiobook, give this a listen.

Very disappointing; redundant, boring and whiny.

I was so looking forward to reading this book. What a disappointment. I thought it would be funny and endearing- NOT. Boring boring boring. All I cared was to get to the end.

This book was okay, and worth a few laughs. Better than Bossypants, but it's not hard to be better than that disappointing piece of junk. The problem with comedy books is that comedy is one-half delivery; maybe this is funnier as an audiobook.

I was disappointed in this book. It was very funny for the first half but then seemed to lose it's momentum and started to seem whiny.
