i really enjoyed this book. i made the mistake of beginning with a book that came late in the series. i should have read this one first. we were on snowdon mountain last year so it was really fun to read a book that has that as its setting. i could picture some of the places that were described. they said that evan evans was a bit reminiscent of hamish macbeth and i really like the hamish macbeth character and i would agree that if you like one you will most likely like the other. since i've read all the hamish books i'm looking forward to having another series to read now.

This is the first book that I've read by Rhys Bowen and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. I have never read a mystery that takes place in Wales so this is my first experience with the places and dialect there. It was very interesting. I loved the odd characters that inhabit the village where the story takes place. I also liked the main character, Evan Evans. He is very likeable and I will defineatly want to read other books in this series. Good read!

First book in Rhys Bowen's Constable Evans series. Evan Evans, newly-relocated village policeman, investigates a series of brutal murders that have occurred on the mountain just out of town. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick and charming cozy.

Constable Evan Evans was glad to trade city life for idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh village that time forgot. But this little town has its share of eccentric characters, and soon he is called to the scene of a crime as brutal as any in the big city. Bowen perfectly captures the flavor of the fiercely nationalistic Welsh, and the plot intrigue marks this as a worthy example of crime fiction.

This is the first in the series, and it gives one a chance to get settled in with the town of Llanfair and its inhabitants. It was a very pleasant read, not as interesting as Hamish Macbeth, but quite enjoyable.

I just found this series and that is one of the great benefits of belonging to PBS. I know Wales well and the author's great detail about it's people, and countryside are a joy. Of course the storyline is great. Where else does your policeman trek through the heather and tell us of the flora and fauna he comes upon? I look forward to reading all of the books in this series.

A fun quick read. I enjoyed the Welsh setting and language references.

Unhappily, this book is startlingly similar to MC Beaton's series featuring Hamish Macbeth, so much so that I wonder at the publisher who allowed it to be sent to press (and commissioned further books in the series). It isn't that it's badly written or anything, but it's terribly predictable and the characters are so familiar that it's just rather boring and redundant if you've read the Beaton series. I highly recommend Bowen's other series (es), but would counsel you to avoid Constable Evans, particularly if you've read the superior (but occasionally no less formulaic) Beaton books.

Evan Evans is Wales' version of Hamish Macbeth, but I think the mysteries are a little better.

First in the Evans series. A nicely written, gentle mystery series set in Wales. Lots of interesting Welsh color and history.
Nice to find a good mystery in such an interesting setting as Wales.
Very enjoyable mystery. Look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I liked this book. The writing is neat and straight forward. A book of a slower place and time. Savor every word.
This is the first in a wonderful series about Welsh constable Evan Evans, and a village full of colorful characters. In this story, Evan must track down the murderer of two hikers on a mountain trail.
First in the Constable Evans series. Evan Evans trades city life for idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh village that time forgot. 2 ministers vie for sould, there's one lasivious barmaid and 3 other Evans's. 2 hikers are murdered on the trails of the local mountain.
Nice eccentric village types. First in this series.
Fun book. I used to live in Wales so it was fun.
Very enjoyable "cosy".
A cute series set in Wales. Likable characters.
Good start to what appears to be an interesting series.
