This is the first Constable Evans Mysteries I have read and I must say I enjoyed it immensely and will be looking to read others in the series. It is unique in my experience as Constable Evans lives and works in North Wales. He is one of those people who are gifted in the solving of mysteries, and unfortunately does not get the reward of promotion that he should, as his superiors generally take all the credit. He seems to be a cross between Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple and Superintendent Allyn. I'm not sure you would call this a cozy mystery exactly, but is written in the same veins as those by Agatha Christie and Ngaio Marsh. Excellent!!

Constable Evan Evans #5 in which the leader of a film crew staying at the Everest Inn is found murdered in an old slate mine. The crew is filming the raising of a WW II German bomber plane from a nearby lake, but a little digging reveals that Grantley Smith had plenty of enemies, both local and in the crew itself, among them an expert on old aircraft who just happens to be Bronwen's ex-husband! When DI Hughes partners the newly-promoted DC Glynis Davies to work with DS Watkins on the case, Evan is feeling decidedly left out. Of course we know he'll find the culprit in the end! This was a nice cozy visit with Evan, Bronwen, Mrs. Williams, Betsy, the dueling preacher's wives, the mountains, the sheep and the crew at the Red Dragon and was quite enjoyable!

"The action is crsip, the small town atmosphere and characters as appealing as ever. Though Evan's superiors are as usual unimpressed, his coterie of fnas will pleases and enlarged." " A pitch perfect book, which will charm you in one sentence, chill you in the next"
