A young girl is orphaned at an early age and bounces around her South American country with all kinds of characters-- benefactors and tormentors both. She survives and transforms her experiences thru story telling. Allende weaves Eva's story with the story of a Rolf Carle, a young man escaping Nazi Austria to make films. Wonderful lush language speaks for the cause of freedom.

This is a early novel for this author. I like her latter novels better, but it was a interesting read. It has lots of twists and turns for the characters.

This book has history and a great story. I could not put this book down. You dont want the story to end. I have kept it in my library for a long time, because I enjoyed it so much, but now I would like to share it with anyone who enjoys areal good book.

Allende is more of a poet than a writer.

Typical Isabel Allende writing, very descriptive, interesting story. Sometime the characters a bit too descriptive. If you have read Allende you know that she spins a great yarn!

From the author of House of Spirits..Eva Luna is a lover, writer, revolutionary and storyteller. A contemporary Scheherazade, wide eyed South American teller of tales. Triumphs over harsh reality with her imagination! Strange, fantastical, sensuous and erotic.

Meet the unforgettable Eva Luna -- Lover, Writer, Revolutionary and Storyteller. "Sumptuous . . . Eva Luna is a tale that spans forty years and moves from a surreal jungle to a modern-day urban capital where even the most apolitical are driven to risky anti-government activities. Allende's canvas is large, busy, full of feeling, incident and rich detail."
