The second book in the Alexander McCall Smith series following the residents of 44 Scotland Street in Edinburgh. Through a series of short vignettes, the reader gets to know the characters, their foibles, their hopes and fears. Some may be put off that the stories aren't tied up in a neat knot at the end. But readers of 44 Scotland Street will especially enjoy the tales.

In this follow-up to 44 Scotland Street, we meet again with 6-year-old Bertie, the child genius, as well as his mother and father who are beginning to disagree on the path their son should take. Self-centered Bruce is without a job and is now contemplating becoming a wine mercahnt. And Pat is embarking on a new life at Edinburgh University, much to her father's relief. It is a joy to catch up once more with these endearing characters.

This sequel to 44 Scotland Street delivers a winner. The characters are back and I loved this better than the first. A very good conclusion to the storylines.

Good book to read, makes you want to meet the people in the story and find out more when you are finished.
It is a good interesting series with likeable characters and I would recommend reading the books in order.

I liked it, but this was the one where I wasn't certain I was going to keep reading all the books. I've since decided I'm going to!

Further adventures of the people living at 44 Scotland Street and their friends and relatives. Like the way McCall Smith continues to develop all the characters, even the minor ones. Looking forward to the next installment.
