I really enjoy reading the Bug Man novels by Tim Downs and this one was no exception. One of the things I enjoy most is the quirky character of Nick Polchak who believes that he is not a member of the human race but of the insect world. This trait was lacking in the two previous Bug Man novels and I was beginning to believe that Tim Downs was letting him become more human but it is back full force in Ends of the Earth. I started reading and as usual didn't want to put the book down. Several characters from previous books are brought back and you get to know them all over again. There are spots that make you laugh, make you angry, surprise you and almost make you cry.

You do learn more than you probably want to know about corn production but the facts put in the book are interesting. I would definitely put it in the top three of his books. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

The ending will be a surprise but a good one I promise!

Nick is requested to a murder scene on a farm to figure time of death. Puzzled as to why he is asked, he arrives and is shocked to find that the wife of the victim is an old friend. Investigating the time of death leads to more questions due to bugs that aren't belonging to the region. Nick asks his friend Alena (dog lady from previous book) to assist with her tracking dogs. What starts out as a simple murder takes on international problems. Pot, corn, tomatoes, the FBI, The FDA, & the Dept of Agriculture all get pulled in along with foreign players to stop or start a global epidemic in the making. Along with the hybrid bugs, Nick is pulled between his old friend and Alena, who are competing for his affections which he doesn't have a clue about at all. Bug Man is experiencing some sort of feelings that he's never felt and is finally beginning to feel a little human.

I have tried a couple of the bugman books and I just can't get into bugs. I get tired of the science names you don't know and this time the Russian theme was a negative for me.

To each there own the saying goes, but I just couldn't get into this.
