I read The End in record time! I finished it at midnight and nearly cried through the last chapter!
It is SO GOOD! I absolutely love it. Although the story and some of the loose strings are tied up, there are still more pieces to the puzzle. Don't forget to read Lemony Snickets Autobiography... it has more clues to solving the riddle that is weaved throughout the series.
FIVE STARS! :)

This is the only one of the Lemony Snicket books I am currently able to write a review of, as it's the only one that stuck with me. Perhaps that's because I am of two minds about it.
In part, I was disappointed in The End as it doesn't resolve many of the outstanding issues left open from elsewhere in the series. I wanted to know a lot of things, and that simply didn't happen.
On the other hand, for the very same reason, The End, is a lot like life. We never know everything, and there aren't always complete resolutions to our problems. As a message, that's a good thing to teach youngsters, as they have to learn to keep on trying regardless.
I guess everyone will have to make up their own minds about this one. For me, I need to re-read the entire series again and see what it feels like as a whole, but in general I think this was a pretty good book.

The End didn't make much more sense than the Beginning, but I love the moral that you can't protect everyone from bad things happening to them.

After investing the time and money into the previous 12 books (and other supplemental books) Lemony Snicket's conclusion was a little more than disappointing. Rather than addressing the important mysteries in the orphans lives that he'd spent so much time building up, he sort of tossed them aside. It almost seemed like he didn't know the answers to the questions he posed and was just trying to write his way out of a corner with this book saying some mysteries will never be solved. He does wrap up a few things, but not enough to really feel satisfied about the series.

After reading the first twelve, I was looking forward to some closure but this book was not to provide that. It is a cute little story, but if you are looking for the answer to your questions throughout the series, you will be disappointed. It is however, very much in line with what we have come to expect from Lemony Snicket - always avoiding specifics. Don't let this deter you from reading this book.
