I admire the imagination, and the style, but the lack of a plot was frustrating.

The concept was so clever, and the writing was so sharp, I think I could have tolerated the lack of a plot, IF I had felt that each section was adding up to be greater than the sum of the parts -- that there was going to be some massive, life transforming payoff to work toward.

But each sections was so same-ish -- Charlie "meets cute" with someone who may or may not be dying. Charles is sincere and comforting, but slightly ineffectual. Charles recognizes his ineffectiveness (both in his job as Harbinger and in his own persona like, and wonders if he's right for the job. gain ... and again ... and again ...

I did something I don;t like doing -- slipped to the end, to see if i was missing something -- and I still felt. sadly, that the payoff wasn't worth my time. But I;ve heard such good things of this author, and her concepts seem so intriguing -- I have a couple more by her in the To Read stack, and I'm hoping that they might be the ones for me.
