I have always loved this book. After many, many years I went back and read it again. I think it is Katherine Forrest best book. It was certainly a great book back when it first came out. There was nothing else like it. Thankfully, times have changed somewhat and now there are many great books like Emergence of Green on the shelves. Still it will remain one of the faves!

This book, though a bit dated, is beautiful as it tells of the budding romance between two women as they discover their sexuality and their love for one another. I highly recommend this book.

Carolyn Blake meets her new neighbor, Val Hunter, and her married life begins to fall apart as she is torn by erotic depths she can neither resist nor control. Val, no longer willing to deny her individuality or sexuality, becomes locked in combat with Paul, Carolyn's husband, who fights to save his marriage with every weapon at his command.Loved this book.

The budding romance and emotional development of the characters unfolds with lush detail. It's sensual without being explicit, and the characters pratically breathe from the pages. They're all engaging -- it's easy to feel the main character's visceral attraction to the gorgeous vitality of her new neighbor, and while despising the brutality of the villain, you feel pity for the terror and confusion that drive him to his deeds. At times the plot development seems a bit pat, but the power of the characters and the vividness of storytelling more than make up for any formulaic aspects of the book. Its status as a classic of lesbian fiction is definitely well-earned.
This story of friendship and emergence is a good read. You don't want to put it down.
