Elvis by Candlelight: Memories by Candlelight
Elvis by Candlelight Memories by Candlelight Author:Mary Lou Anderson This is not a book about an ordinary person. It is a book about millions of people who have become obsessed with another human being. Obsessed to the point that they would go anywhere, do almost anything for this person -- just for the privilege to touch the hem of their idol?s garment. It could be a famous entertainer, a coach, basketball or... more » football player. Young or old, it could happen to you, as it has to millions. Their hero becomes their idol. They would do anything, or go anywhere to see their idol -- if only for one short minute. This is a true story about one of those people. The person was my Mother, Naomia Stiers, and her love was Elvis Presley. Everything she did for him she did it out of love, and I know that if she were alive today she would do it all over again. Mama was 57, a Registered Nurse, and Supervisor of a hospital in Houston, Texas. She was a very devout Seventh Day Adventist -- so devout, she sacrificed to keep her three children in an Adventist Church School their formative years. This is where it all started, and this book will tell you how it has changed all our lives for the past 50 years. This book will tell you how she started her fan, how it grew into thousands of members, and the way she helped them start their clubs. There are now thousands of members all round the world with Elvis music playing someplace in the universe. Because of a few loyal women who persisted to meet somewhere after Elvis? death, it was finally decided to be in Memphis -- as close to his home as they could get. And the dates they decided were August 6 to August 16. This officially became Elvis Week. Also, these same few women wanted to somehow show their love for him so they gathered outside Elvis? gate with some candles and flowers. They only wanted to put the flowers on his grave light their candles, and say a prayer for a few minutes. This was the beginning of the annual Candlelight Service. The ceremony in 2008 has grown from a few women to 40,000 fans. When Naomia was 86, she asked me to help her write a book about her adventures and what all she and her Elvis friends had done for him. And this tells the story?« less
