My 3rd Mrs. Pollifax book and a delight. I like her because she is spunky and my age (near it anyway). She is brave and compassionate and likes to break the rules.

This series is excellent and surprising. An unusual book because it is about a CIA operative who is well past the age you would normally expect to find. This is because Mrs. Pollifax didn't start until after her kids were raised with kids of their own and she was a widow finding life dull and boring. Her life is anything but now as she circles the globe finding adventure and risk wherever she goes. This is the third book in the series.

Mrs. Pollifax, an unlikely CIA agent, goes to Bulgaria (during communist times) on a secret mission to deliver passports to the Underground there. She tends to meddle in other people's affairs which makes her a troublesome person to deal with, but you can't help loving her!

IF YOU MAKE IT ACROSS THE BORDER, GET US HELP.
SOME OF US CARE.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
RIGHT NOW WE DESPERATELY NEED PASSPORTS AND IDENTITY PAPERS.
THE ARRESTS GROW INSANE.
At the very hour this message was en route to the CIA, Mrs. Pollifax was waiting for her night-blooming cereus to do its thing. She hardly got to see it, however, because Mr. Carstairs was already on his way to recruit that gallant lady for another daring mission. Soon the most unlikely of all international spies was sporting a beautiful new hat--perfect for hiding eight forged passports . . .
Continues the saga of the inimitable Mrs. Pollifax . . .

A fellow member recommended Dorothy Gilman's books to me and I have not been disappointed with any of her books. In this book, The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax she is sent to Bulgaria on a daring mission filled with adventure, danger, and to her excitement. This is probably one of her most action filled books that will make a great read for anyone. I highly recommend.
I had a great time following this little old lady through her adventures and had a strong urge to compare it to the old black and white, Alfred Hitchcock, movie, "The Lady Vanishes". Definitely a read more than once book.
This is such a fun mystery! Mrs. Pollifax appears to be a grandmotherly-type and she makes friends with various people who have talents that help solve the crime. This story is set in Bulgaria. I'm reading another of the series now.

Book # 3 in the Mrs Pollifax series. I enjoy these books as she is an interesting character and fun. A light hearted mystery that starts out as a simple delivery by the CIA and she is kidnapped and held in a Bulgarian prison. She befriends everyone she meets which helps her in the end.

Another great Mrs Pollifax story. This time she is headed in to give passports to the fledgling Bulgarian underground . . . carrying it in her hat! Of course she meets people on the way and causes the situation to be turned on its head. Very enjoyable book with the right ending.

I just discovered this series by reading the third book in it. There are now three on my WL, two requested and six on their way to me.
The female protagonist is like a cross between James Bond and Maxwell Smart. Can't wait to read the rest.

A fun little story, and a nice addition to the Pollifax saga.
