This is the story of Ellie Maust, a young girl growing up in the Amish community. Throughout her youth, Ellie saw the many interesting things that the outside world has, but she also saw all of the things that her own community has. And so, Ellie faces her temptations and her questions, and grows in her faith and in her love for her special heritage.

I must say, I found this to be a wonderful book. The author, who grew up in the Amish community, does a wonderful job of bringing the Amish existence alive, showing how the Amish live and love and worship. I found this to be a loving and enlightening book, one that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who loves a good story.

Ellie is a charming and captivating story of a young girl learning and experiencing the ways of the amish. Slow-paced, the book is perfect for a comfortable day of relaxation. Though you had better schedule a whole day because you won't be able to put this book down. I found myself falling in love with Ellie and her simple family. I have read and re-read all the books in the series, and I must say, the were truly a comfort and a joy.

This book would be good for a pre-teen girl to read if she wants to learn a bit about what an Amish girl's life may be like. It was cute. It focuses mainly on Ellie's childhood and the friend she makes who is an "Englisher." Her father is very worried that the world will take a hold of her. The book quickly jumps through her courting years and into her adulthood. I will read the rest of the series just as well.
