If you are interested in the life of the legendary Queen of England this is a must read! It is written from Elizabeth's perspective and covers her entire life. Although this is a work of fiction there is enough historical fact to make this book an historical learning experience. This one is hard for me to part with!

Excellent and well-researched novel! This is a first-person fictional account of the life of Queen Elizabeth I of England. I think anyone interested in historical fiction would be interested in reading this book and especially if you have an interest in royal history or the Tudors/Elizabethan times.

This book is not for the casual fan of English history. I found myself at times trudging through the book. There were a lot of names and it was confusing to me. There were enjoyable parts, and I finished the book. I think I'll stick to Philippa Gregory's books though when it comes to English Historical Fiction.

I love history and reading. I found this book read easy and enjoyable. A fictionous book with some real facts. Makes you believe it was a biography. I enjoyed the author and lokk forward to reading more from her.

Excellent book! Very rick in story and characters. It moves fast in the first half of the book but by the time she becomes queen the story slows down. Rosalind Miles is a great author.

An intriguing novel about Elizabeth from childhood and her tumultuous relationship with Robert Dudley, among others.

I love Alison Weir's biographies and have indulged in several re: Henry VIII and Elizabeth as well as other books on the life of Elizabeth I.
After requesting this title, I was reluctant to pick it up b/c I've read so many other books I thought it would be redundant and I was not too sure what to think of a fictional "autobiography". I'm thrilled I finally picked this title from my shelf and indulged! It's well written and gives new dimensions to characters and events I thought I knew.

The first third of the book is really captivating but than it just really starts to DRAG. I've loved all of Rosalind Miles's books but this one was pretty boring. I also thought there would be a bit more romance in the novel as well, but her relationship with Dudley is irritating in that she talks about how much she loves him but than pushes him away. Much of the book is her talking about how she loves him but can't allow herself to have him & it just gets really old. I realize Miles was trying to portray Elizabeth accurately but in doing so, it felt more like a first person account text book. This is a rare instance will I will actually reccomend the movie 'Elizabeth' starring Cate Blanchett over this dull book.

Excellent book! Very entertaining. Since it's written as an "autobiography," it obviously has a "pro-Elizabeth" slant, but I think the author did a very good job of presenting Elizabeth as very human. Truly a remarkable woman, yet far from perfect. The voice the author gives to Elizabeth is wonderful. Highly recommended!

A novel (that means, don't read this for your history report) from a historical writer (not an historian. An important distinction.) There are far more accurate biographies out there about this seminal monarch and her court, from Sidney to Dee to Shakespeare. If you're after facts pass this one by.

This is one of the best tellings of Queen Elizabeth and the end of the Tudor era... I would recommend it for any historical romance/fiction fan!

The author has a unique writing style. There is entertaining dialogue and an insight into the Elizabethan Age.
The author had great voice as Elizabeth. I also enjoyed that the book covered her full life when many books I've read end as she becomes queen.
Nice fictional account of Elizabeth the 1st of England.
Nope, I didn't like this book and couldn't finish it. But it might appeal to someone else. It's a fictionalized account of Elizabeth I's life, as you expect from the title. It's more soap opera, less history, though. Rosalind Mills writes well, the stories just not for me.
Interesting historical account of the times.
