Most of the 18 stories are excellent, many of them published in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine or Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. If you enjoy that kind of story, you would like this book. Of course, as in the magazines, there are always a couple of stories that could only be rated average.

Jan Burke is a wonderful author and this book shows it. A collection of short stories, this book really showcases her work and her range beyond her well-known Irene Kelly character. The short stories are mainly mystery stories, including a couple of "ghost stories". As enjoyable as the stories is the preface written by Burke explaining the stories and how she came to write/publish them. It gives the stories a more personal touch.

My favorite had to be "Unharmed". I can't give away anything about this one, but I promise, you will reread it just to see if it gave you any clues that you missed (sort of like when you first watched "The Sixth Sense"!).

A great selection of short stories, including some well-deserved award winners, the first Irene Kelly short story, and a follow-up to "Bones." Good reading, especially for commuting.

"A delightful collection of page-turners. At turns chilling, funny, poignant--and always insightful. With these stories, Jan Burke's at the top of her game" quoting Jonathan Kellerman
