The incident that is the basis of At the Edge of the Haight is from Katherine Seligman's own life. However, this book is much more about the life of the homeless in San Francisco. The book has a rather sanitized approach to telling this story. This makes me wonder about the target audience. The messaging that help is always available is important but seems more suitable to a young adult audience.
