This was my favorite so far in the series. Its staying on my Keeper List. The boys are fighting mad over Bella, and its driving her nuts! Even though almost 99% of the female popuation is in love with Edward (myself included) You cant help but fall in love with Jacob too. Too bad a girl cant have her cake and eat it too.
I liked this book because we get to learn more about other characters, like Rosalee and Jasper. The info we learn in this book on Rosalee is relavent to events in the final book as well.

I don't know how I can be so hooked on reading a book with two lead characters who annoy me so much. I guess the reason Edward and Bella are so perfect for each other is that they can both be such whiners at times.

The love-triangle in this has definitely been done before (anyone read Anita Blake books?). Although, Jake is probably my favorite character out of the three.

The overall story is pretty good and it does keep you hooked.

Its so hard to write a helpful review w/o giving away details. This is my alltime fave series. Third book in series did not disappoint. I read all 629 pages in 2 days. The ending left many questions unanswered, but Im sure they were just left to be answered in the next book. This book was worth every penny. I only wish the next one were available already!

While I didn't really like Twilight, I found New Moon and Eclipse to be more entertaining, as if Stephenie Meyer's skills as an author improved as she wrote each book. She does spend a lot of time on the mundane, and then rushes through some of the more climactic scenes, but in all I thought this was a good book.

I have read Twilight, New Moon & now Eclipse in a matter of 9 days. I have never not been able to put a book down like this, EVER! Meyer is a fantasic writer to say the very least. You can relate to the characters at least on some level and they leave you NEEDING to know what's going to happen. I know lots of people aren't interested in "vampire" stuff, but these books are about so much more than vampires. Certainly the last to jump on the Twilight band wagon, but oh so glad I did. I couldn't be more pleased with a writing!

Still reading them...

Sorry, but this was my least favorite of the three I have read so far. Too long, and I felt the long triangle was too contrived and unrealistic. Ok, so everyone is in love with Bella. I get it.

I did like the cooperation of the groups and the resolution of the threat, though it took forever to get there. Also liked the Indian mythology.

I love the Twilight saga, but I was a little disappointed with this one. I don't want to give away the details, but I found the whole love triangle thing a bit overplayed. I did like how we learned more about the Cullen vamps - where they came from & how they came to be a family. The ending left alot of questions, and I'm sure readers will be surprised. It's a great romance without being raunchy. Can't wait for the final book that comes out this fall!

Almost
certainly the worst book i've ever read. Offensive on every level. Set feminism back 2o00 years. Someone should teach the main female lead how a real woman acts.
i am ashamed that I finished it. But I felt I had to speak from a position of knowledge not ignorance.
Two hours of my life I'll never get back.
proof once again that popularity is the poorest why to judge quality.

Thank the gods I still have my Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to reread

Third in the series and still holding strong. This is the first book I've "bought" in a long time. I like the 1st and 2nd books more but this one was still good. I have a feeling that a lot of this book was to set the stage for the fourth book. At some points the story drags but then goes too fast in another points (as does real life). This "young adult" series still has this "grown up" reader interested enought to keep reading more by this author.

Bella Swan is one of the most whiny characers that I have had the displeasure to read about. I was hoping for her demise through out the last half of the book. Twilight was good, New Moon was okay, Eclipse was bad... I have the last book in the series and I am really debating if I want to waste any more time on it.

Ok, i like the series but Bella just gets on my last nerve. She is so ungrateful for what Alice and Jacob do for her. Edward tries to give her gifts and she is whiny about that too. And just what is the big deal about marriage?
she loves Edward but does not want marriage but begs him for sex.
I found myself getting very irritated and losing intrest about half way through the book, I only kept reading cause i like Jacob Black and Alice.
Some times i want to take a stick to Edward too, he is just too virtuous.
I had this book given to me and i am glad. It is not worth the hardcover price. The first book was good, these just go downhill with the drama.

This is the third book in the Twilight Saga, and it does an excellent job of maintaining the entertainment quality of the previous volumes. As the relationship between Edward and Bella continues to grow, she finds herself torn between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob Black (werewolf). In the meantime, a very dangerous enemy is after her. I loved it and couldn't put it down. The writing quality and editing continue to be noticeably flawed, but I still would give it a slot on any 'must read' list.

Out of all of the Twilight Saga books this one seems to be the most transitional book. Where a lot of things get wrapped up and dealt with. Meyer still keeps it interesting and expresses Bella's struggle very well. It still leaves us wondering...what else can go wrong?

In my opinion, this is the best one out of the series. A lot more action and plot twists as the story goes along. It seems as if Stephenie had really found her voice by the time she wrote this one, but then she goes off the deep end with the final installment, Breaking Dawn.

Another great book in the Twilight Saga. The story between Edward, Bella, and Jacob keeps growing, and Bella is finally starting to realize for every action there are reactions and choices to be made. It is also wonderful to finally learn some back stories about the characters and how they came to be vampires and werewolves. Just an amazing book with an amazing plot line. This series continues to get better and better building to a crescendo in this book that left me reaching for the final book of the series and leaving many of my favorite authors in the TBR stack despite their accolades and anking on the Bestseller List. A glimpse into the world of vampires and shapeshifters/werewolves that leaves one wondering and in an odd way - hoping - even as Bella does. My advice? Get all the series and read from Twilight to the final volume - Breaking Dawn.... It will not disappoint.

The werewolves and vampires are finally working together. It was about time they were allies. Stephanie Meyer did an excellent job of meshing the two together. There was just enough resentment and just enough determination. The perfect balance. Another reason why I liked this book so much is because so many problems are finally concluded. For instance Bella has now made her decision between Edward and Jacob. This book is the turning point of the entire series.

So far, this is my favorite book in the series. For me, Twilight was just OK and I enjoyed New Moon much more. Then I found myself unable to put Eclipse down, and I can't wait to begin Breaking Dawn. The tension Bella feels is described so completely, and it shows she's a normal girl torn between two great boys that love her. Her decisions for her future have me holding my breath, but I don't want to ruin the story with any more descriptions. Enjoy!

When I recommend this series to people they ask what it's about, and of course I have to tell them "vampires". But I promise this is one of the best series ever. I'm about to explode just thinking about the fourth one coming in August and then the movie in December! I never thought reading about vampires would have me so addicted. But there's only one problem - Edward needs to be real. :)

I thought this book was very slow at getting to the plot. It kept anticipating that something big was going to happen and then you would have to keep reading hundreds of more pages to get there. The story does pick up at the last two hundred pages and turns out to be very good. I loved the action as well as the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob. This book is not my favorite of the series, but once is picks up it is a good third book.

My Review:
The third installment in a wonderful saga, Eclipse is a wonderful book. The characters are so well rounded and so easy to love, it's no wonder there's a whole community dedicated to them on the internet!

Edward's love is so believable and raw that it brings tears to my eyes and the way that Ms. Meyer writes makes my breath catch whenever the character's does. Watching Jacob grow as both boy to man and into a werewolf is like watching someone I love develop.

I will say, that I think the book dragged just a bit in the middle, but not enough to worry about. I also personally (again, this is just my opinion) didn't agree with some of the choices that Bella made when it came to Jacob, but by the end of the book I saw some of the point and where it could lead.

To say that ECLIPSE isn't emotional would be like saying the sky isn't blue. Many mature themes are dealt with here as Bella struggles to make a decision about her future vampirism. However, ECLIPSE is also action- and drama-packed. Two lovable boys, enemies in form and common affection, fighting for Bella. Bloodthirsty, bad vampires (who can get enough of them?). I guarantee that ECLIPSE will not disappoint steadfast Twilight fans, and we are all looking forward to the fourth and final book with barely contained impatience.

Protagonist: 18-year-old Bella Swan
Setting: Forks, Washington, a small town on the rainy Olympic Peninsula
Series: #3
Rating: B

First Line: All our attempts at subterfuge had been in vain.

Since I received a small complaint about not including a spoiler alert with my review of New Moon, let me say this: I try my best not to give away major plot points in any of my book reviews. If you're a reader who doesn't want to know anything that happens in Eclipse, it might be a good idea for you to skip this review--or at least skip down to the last paragraph!

At the end of New Moon, Bella and Edward had been reunited, but there was still a serious threat from a revenge-seeking vampire focusing on Bella (which didn't live up to all the hype and suspense, if you ask me). In Eclipse, Bella just wants to graduate from high school and become a vampire so she can be with Edward for eternity. She also wants her friendship with Jacob Black to continue. Since Edward and Jacob are enemies, this isn't going to be the easiest thing to accomplish.

Once again, Meyer managed to suck me into the story, and I wasn't content until I'd finished the book. I'm still not quite sure how she does that because Eclipse had a huge "irk factor" for me. In the first part of the book, Edward is so controlling that I wanted to hit him upside the head with a tire iron--which just so happens to be a weapon that's mentioned later. Even as a teenager, I was fiercely independent, and if I'd hooked up with someone as controlling as Edward, it wouldn't have taken me long to point to the door. Hit the road, Jack...er...Ed. You may think you're the zoo keeper, but I'm not one of your big cats. Bella's low self-esteem also annoys me. Yes, it's pretty much guaranteed for most teen aged girls, but she goes overboard with it. It also doesn't help that I'm firmly in the camp that believes Bella has chosen The Wrong Guy. Yes, folks, I prefer Jacob. He's tall, he's good-looking (not beautiful--gag), and he's got a good sense of humor. (He made me laugh several times while reading Eclipse.) Edward is just too much a Pretty Boy and way too serious! I'll be reading Breaking Dawn with some interest. I know Jacob's going to get the short end of the stick, but I don't want it to be too short, if you know what I mean!

My issue had lots of typos--are they rushing editting now?

Was discussing this series with some moms of teen girls and we liked the "no sex before marriage" stance Edward takes---very few teen books or movies are doing that! AND they still say how hard it was to stop and not go all the way so they weren't taking lightly that their hormones were raging.

I read this as a favor to my wife to preview it for our young daughter. This whole series feels like harlequin romance lite. As long as you read this book knowing its intended audience is teenage girls whose hormones demand the admiration and worship of men as gods, it's a good book. Take out a third of the ushy-gushy blubbering hero worship of Edward and it's a really good book. I realize the internal struggle and mental anguish that Bella endures, is part of the draw of the book. It's the framework that the storyline is written around that keeps you reading. The mantra that Edward is a god, however, gets old after three books.

The storyline really gets fleshed out with this book. The characters grow and become more real and believable in many aspects. Ms. Meyer's writing style seems to improve with every book and this one is no exception. Overall I found this an easy read that generally held my interest well. In my opinion, however, I wouldn't recommend the book to any girls younger than 13 or 14 years old.

Third in the Twilight saga, I really enjoyed the continuing story. Bella and Edward's relationship matures, as does Bella's and Jacob's. The novel stays true to its core young reader audience, which for an older reader, feels at times like a lack of depth, but this third book does begin to convey an inner life of the characters. I enjoyed it and will read the fourth.

Eclipse is the third novel in Stephenie Meyers popular Twilight series. You really want to have read Twilight and New Moon (in that order) first before reading Eclipse, because the author doesnt spend too much time expounding the story-lines of the previous novels but rather drops the reader straight in to the story. You also want to read Twilight and New Moon because they are both excellent novels and, trust me, you are missing out if you havent read them.

Eclipse carries on not long after New Moon left off. Bellas high school graduation is approaching and she will soon be leaving Forks forever, ostensibly to go to college - but in reality she is planning to join her boyfriend in his vampire existence and will therefore be unable to return home, due to being dead and possessed by a terrible blood lust for the first few years. Not that the reader is actually taken that far in this story, we make it through graduation but then the dangerous vampires from Seattle come to Forks and dealing with them dominates the rest of the novel.

This is only one part of the story though. Eclipse is primarily a romantic saga, so Bella and Edwards relationship is the primary focus of the novel. Or as I should say Bella, Edward and Jacobs relationship - because there is a love triangle in the plot of this novel.

Bella and Jacob have always been friends, at least they were - right up until Jacob became a werewolf. Then the enmity between vampires and werewolves put a huge strain on their friendship. Besides which, Jacob is in love with Bella, who is in love with Edward so this is going to make things awkward between them.

At this point, Eclipse descends into soap opera territory Bella has found her soul mate in Edward but Jacob is the soul mate she should have / could have / would have had if Edward didnt exist. She loves him too but not as much as Edward. Why she loves Jacob is beyond me he knows that she loves Edward but Jacob still tries to make her feel guilty that she cant love him like he wants her too. Blatant emotional blackmail is unattractive whatever way you serve it up and it detracted from his otherwise fine character. Worse, it lead to a large proportion of this book being devoted to teenage angst and with this book being 628 pages long that a substantial amount of angst!

To be fair, Eclipse is written for the young adult market so I really shouldnt complain about the teen angst and the drama but for me it meant that this book lacked the magical quality that made Twilight stand out from the crowd of vampire romances available in bookstores today. Dont misunderstand me - Eclipse is still a really good read. The book didnt feel like it was over 600 pages long, I literally flew through the pages and had to make a conscious effort to slow down my reading so I didnt finish the whole book in a couple of sittings.

For teens already hooked on the series, Eclipse is another solid instalment of Forks goodness. Adult readers may be put off by the teenage relationship angst in this novel but if you have already enjoyed the authors previous offerings I think there is still plenty here to entertain.

It will be intriguing to see where Stephenie Meyer takes the ideas and characters in this series next. Writing for the Young Adult market always means that there is some expectation for the author to set a good example for impressionable young minds yet criticisms that Bellas character is too dependent and needs to set a better example for young women seem unfair. This is romantic fantasy enjoy it!

These are the best books that I have read in a long time - I feel like I know the characters so well they have become a part of me (yes, I know how cheesey that sounds). Long after I read these books, I find myself thinking about the characters and what is going to happen in the next couple of books. I didn't like the movie of this book at all--it dragged too much and had far too much hand wringing in it. But the book was surprisingly enjoyable. It's light and fluffy fiction, like the others, but I greatly enjoy the back stories of the other more three-dimensional vampires (compared to Edward). The wolves/vampires alliance versus the army of newborns was also an interesting twist. If you are in the mood for light summer "beach-read" fiction, this is worth a single read. I advise you to stop reading the series at this book, however, and skip the 4th (see my review of Breaking Dawn for more on that!)

I loved this book and the whole series! I couldn't put it down, I read the whole series in less than a week. It is a classic in the making. As a parent I also apprecited how moral it was since it is for young adults. The series is backed by sound morals and family values that are lacking in many YA books. Meyer promotes close family units, no drug use, safe driving, no sex before marriage, etc... Though there is sex in the last book it takes place after Belle and Edward are married which is more than I can say about many other YA vampire series. In fact it is Edward(the male main character) that encourages the abstinance throughout the series which I beleive is an excelent example for young males... one I would love to find in any boy who would date my daughters. All and all loved the books and would recommend them to anyone. They would make a great Mother/Daughter read.

This is the third book in the Twilight Saga Series. I had heard from others that the second book, New Moon, wasn't the best of the four, but so far, I have to say this one wasn't. I LOVED Twilight, liked New Moon, and feel that Eclipse is OK. I am looking forward to reading the last one - Breaking Dawn! In this part of the saga, some true feelings emerge and all the characters are finally honest with themselves and others about their feelings. I read the book in just a couple of days, but I feel like it was the slowest read of the three so far. The last 6 chapters (not inluding epilogue) were the best of the whole book - super intense!

I love that Bella and Edward are starting to play this game of chicken....who will cave first and if Bella accepts Edward's proposal will he keep his end of the bargain? Or is he counting on the fact that Bella has been very opposed to her own marriage up until now??

Eclipse was not my favorite book of the Twilight series but it does some essential stage setting for Breaking Dawn. I do recommend the book. I find the moral teachings in the book front and center when it comes to sex and who doesn't want their teen reading that in hopes that it will influence them in some way?

This is my least-favorite of the Twilight Saga series of books, merely because of the fact that not much seems to happen in the narrative. This is the true "bridge" book of this series, serving only as a connector between the first two books and the last (and most-epic) of the quadrilogy. However, despite these cons, the book remains compulsively readable, and the confrontations between Jacob and Edward for Bella's affections are interesting and fire-charged. Subplots give side-characters like Jasper and Rosalee fascinating -- and much appreciate -- backstories, but the subplot concerning the vampire Victoria's plan for revenge on Bella was the most interesting thing about the book. The confrontational scenes at the end of the novel are the best of the novel, combining passion, hatred, violence, and horror all in one. In the end, if you've read the first two books, "Eclipse" will be worth your while, so that way you can go on to the best book of the series, "Breaking Dawn".

This story keeps getting better with each book. I couldn't imagine the story would go where it has. Once you think something is going to happen, things change and you have no idea what will happen next! I was literaly holding on to the book trying to figure out what would happen next. I even just wanted to scream out to the characters how I felt and my ideas. I can't wait to start the next book and see what else can happen.

After three not-so-good books in a row, Ive gone back to reading the Twilight series. Well, that, and I borrowed this book from a friends daughter and Id like to get it back to her quickly. She obviously likes the book and has read it often the spine is broken in at least two places and there are several torn pages. (Or should I say, she likes the story she doesnt seem to care as much about the book itself.)

The third installment of the Twilight series and its Bella and Edwards senior year of high school. Most teens are excited about their senior year and happily applying for admission to college, but not our little Bella. No, shes enduring being grounded (for her little romp to Italy) and being forced to apply for many colleges -- besides the one in Alaska that she believes she and Edward should attend. Edward even gets her to apply to Ivy League schools like Dartmouth.

This sounds like a great idea to someone who doesnt know the story, but its not. Bella doesnt want to go to college no she still wants to be killed and made a vampire. Bellas only reason for going to college is so she can be away from her family for the transformation from human to vampire. Since this transition that will take some time, Bella really has no intention of actually attending college. Strangely, this makes Bellas point that attending the less expensive college in Alaska is the better choice. Of course, Edward wont do allow the transformation unless she marries him.

Plus, theres Jacob Black the werewolf that is in love with her. Of course, Bella, umph, loves Jacob, too. But Jacob being a werewolf is the mortal enemy of Edward because hes a vampire. Edward doesnt want Bella to spend any time with Jacob which annoys Bella and becomes an issue when one of the conditions for the ending of her grounding by her father is that she spend more time with other people, such as Jacob. And, of course, Jacob is going to fight to get Bella to pick him. (Why he wants the whiney twit is just beyond me.)

Then there is the serial killer, or is it killers, that are loose in Seattle. Eventually we learn that the killings are being committed by newborn vampires who are out of control and being led by Victoria who still wants to avenge the death of James by killing Bella.

This bring the Cullen vampire family to amend their pact with the Quileute werewolves and join forces to battle the newborn vampires and Victoria when they come to Forks to kill Bella.

This is the basic storyline its not a bad story, really. But by now, we know how beautiful Edward and all the other Cullens are and if we missed it one of the other 5,436 times that Ms Meyers told us in the previous books, she makes sure that we get at least 2,356 more mentions of their beauty. (I wonder what the binding on Ms Meyers looks like? Is it broken in multiple places or just by beautiful?)

The real disappointment is that the authors writing has shown absolutely no signs of improving. The story drags through an inordinate amount of dialog involve Bellas angst over her love for Jacob vs her love for Edward. And her angst over becoming a vampire. And her aversion to marrying Edward. And her desire to not attend any college except that one in Alaska. All this just delays getting to the battle at the end of the story. A good chunk of rain forest could have been saved if this book were 100-pages shorter, which it could easily have been with some decent editing.

The good news theres only one book left.

The legions of readers who are hooked on the romantic struggles of Bella and the vampire Edward will ecstatically devour this third installment of the story begun in Twilight, but it's unlikely to win over any newcomers. Jake, the werewolf met in New Moon, pursues Bella with renewed vigilance. However, when repercussions from an episode in Twilight place Bella in the mortal danger that series fans have come to expect, Jake and Edward forge an uneasy alliance. The plot patterns have begun to show here, but Meyer's other strengths remain intact. The supernatural elements accentuate the ordinary human dramas of growing up. Jake and Edward's competition for Bella feels particularly authentic, especially in their apparent desire to best each other as much as to win Bella. Once again the author presents teenage love as an almost inhuman force: "[He] would have been my soul mate still," says Bella, "if his claim had not been overshadowed by something stronger, something so strong that it could not exist in a rational world." According to Meyer, the fourth book should tie up at least the Edward story, if not the whole shebang.

I have since read all 3 books over twice, in anticipation of the final book coming out in August - This is about the best series I've read in a long, long time. The third book of the Twilight saga has a great deal of interest and still pulls the reader through it, as the first two books did so well. Stephanie Meyer does an excellent example of explaining emotion and sentiment. The trials and tribulations of this book do not seem to be as great as those in the previous 2 books, but it does lead to more questions in the end. By the end of the book, the burning desire to read the final book of the saga was definitely increased.

This is the third (and possibly final?) installment of the thrilling series (following TWILIGHT and NEW MOON) that has many teens and adults alike enthralled by the passion of Edward and Bella.

Could it now be over?

Bella believes that she wants to be a vampire, but she must fight with herself to make sure that's what she really wants. There have been many killings in Seattle and, once again, Bella is in danger. Graduation is right around the corner and she is faced with the hardest decision of her life -- life or death? And which is which?

ECLIPSE is a good closing to the series, if this is indeed the end, but there are a few times that the writing is a little vague. I'll be very sad to see these characters go, but at the same time, I'm worried that if there are any more books the story may begin to seem drug out.

Very good overall, though!

Amazing third book in the series and certainly not a let down. All the emotions and excitement built in the previous two books is magnified here; more information is thrown to you in these too short of pages than one could imagine. Another whirlwind novel given to us by Stephenie Meyer.
jai avatar reviewed Eclipse (Twilight, Bk 3) on + 310 more book reviews
Eclipse is the third book in the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'd know this is the story of Bella, a "normal" high school girl who falls in love with a vampire. Complications ensue because she's human and should be her boyfriend's dinner, and she has a werewolf for a best friend.

Where to begin. Well I thought that Eclipse was better than New Moon. I think that that is greatly due to my aversion to reading about a main character who is moping around and angsty, which is what you see a lot of in New Moon. I'm just not a fan of depression in my escapism. On the other hand, while in New Moon I found Bella and Edward somewhat annoying, in Eclipse I started also getting mad at other secondary characters like Charlie, who is Bella's father, and Jacob, Bella's best friend!

I admit, Meyer has to be doing something right. These books aren't on bestseller lists for nothing. I'd say it's the world building and the way she writes her dialog. It feels very natural and real and it's very readable. From what I remember of Twilight, the pacing there was quite fast. The pacing in Eclipse however felt a lot slower, with much of the action happening only in the last 100 or so pages. So despite my liking the way Meyer writes dialog, I felt like there was too much - it takes up a lot of room so pages and pages later you realize - nothing has happened. At 600+ pages, this book could have used some merciless editing.

Overall: An average to slightly above average read. Natural dialog, fascinating world building, great action when there is any (there was little), but I had some major issues with the characters and with Bella's subjugation by her male counterparts.

"Eclipse" is the third book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga. You're going to read this book if you like the Twilight series. But, it is unlikely that you'll read it if you don't. I also recommend that you start the series from the beginning.

What I really enjoyed about "Eclipse" is that it gave us further glimpses into the back-stories of the Cullen family. The storyline in "Eclipse" is getting familiar as I read more of the series. It follows the same pattern in other words.

I read this entire book on an international plane flight. I simply could not put it down. I definitely recommend that you read the series, and let me know your thoughts when you're done. Visit www.carriesclassics.com to share your thoughts on Eclipse.

Very interesting, attention-capturing fiction. Has romance, but isn't trashy. I read the books after seeing the movies, and am very glad I did. The books explain so much that the movies can't.
Edward, one of the main characters, is old fashioned and believes in abstinence until marriage, and practices great amounts of self-control to stay true to his beliefs. Bella, the other main character, is typical of the insecurities and flaws of us women. It is a great rendition of most girls' dream of being loved, protected & saved by the guy she loves. With a sci-fi twist.
I also like the way this series is written in the first person perspective...from Bella's viewpoint.
Am working my way through the whole series a 2nd time. I'm a female adult. My husband and my 16 yr old son both read & enjoyed the whole series. They are close Twilight fans, too. I personally wouldn't allow my younger children read these, yet. I think, IMHO, that the content is more appropriate for 14+. A bit edgy at times, and has heavy themes, along with a few curse words every now & then. Warning: the sexual content picks up considerably in the final book, although it is non-explicit, and is in the confines of marriage. Also, I found that the curse words increased a little with each book. Sad that she couldn't have simply left it out altogether; although I realize Ms. Meyer was trying to draw us a picture of Jacob's (& the other tribe member's) character, and the roughness therein.

As opposed to many other reviewers, I preferred New Moon over this book. After watching the DVD, I decided to start the series of books. Our teenage daughter couldn't say enough about the Twilight books so I was curious to read what the hype was about. I wasn't as interested about the history of the vampires and werewolves which this book discussed in great detail. I became quite bored through the middle, but the ending picked up pace very quickly. I love that Stephenie Meyer is promoting what I consider good morals for her characters. I have no problem with my children reading this series. I have started the final book of the series, and am enjoying it immensely so far.

Bella and Edward move on with their relationship with Bella desperately missing her friend Jacob who keeps away from her since she decided to stay together with vampire Edward. Edward, strictly against a friendship warns her that werewolves aren't predictable and tries to occupy her with his sister Alice or himself to keep her away from La Push, the wolves reservoir.
But sooner or later he has to learn that Jacob's friendship means a lot to Bella, enough to run away from his watchful eyes. He knows that sooner or later Bella has to decide between the human love she feels for Jacob and his and wants her to decide for herself.

When Seattle is raided by a group of young vampires, Bella once again is the target of Victoria's revenge. To win this war the Cullens' have to built an alliance with the wolves pack to fight the group that will come to Forks.

-

I don't quite know what to think of this third installment. Bella has her issues with becoming immortal, she has her issues to give up the human qualities Jacob could offer her. The author most definitely went overboard with the whole love triangle thing and certain parts didn't make sense to me at all. But then, I've never been like Bella, who is still the most dependent person in the world, now needing two men to "survive".
Edward seems to have matured a bit by allowing Bella to keep her friendship and decide for herself but still the whole situation is annoying. As a mother I'd probably throw a fit over it.

So top or flop, I wouldn't know and can't decide if I liked it or not. The book didn't offer much substance to me which I expected but overall, it was an ok read to pass the time.
I'm still interested how the story ends and have already picked up the last book to finish the series and get it out of the way.

I refuse to draw any conclusions to the secret fantasies the author might have. Won't do that. No no no.

Bella, Bella, Bella...how you stay so "good" and still be a one-person disaster zone is truly the mark of a talented writer. So many authors would have had this tale sounding like the Keystone Cops, but Meyer has the ability to keep everything in a totally human (although angst-ridden) context.

Again, the standard of morality is fantastically high yet never comes across as preachy. The testing of friendships and dedication to a higher cause are idealistic and realistic at the same time.

This is the third of four volumes, and each has been insanely hard to put down while there was still reading left to do.

And you thought your life was complicated.

Stephenie Meyer continues her epic vampire saga with Eclipse, the third installment in the book series. After a whirlwind trip to Italy to save the love of her life, Bella Swan is back in Forks, Washington, preparing for high school graduation and the ulimate change in her life: her transformation into a vampire. But a few things are standing in the way: the Volturi (a small, dominating group of peace-keeping vampires), Victoria (female vampire seeking to kill Bella), and her chaste boyfriend Edward (vampire who isn't completely convinced on the idea of Bella becoming one of him). And her best friend Jacob - a werewolf, to note - isn't helping matters much by wanting to take their relationship to the next level despite Edward's constant presence. But even that isn't the worst of it.

A rogue group of young, hungry "bloodsuckers" are rampaging through Seattle, causing newspaper headlines to declare mass murders and killing sprees. Little do they know, the team has its crosshairs on just one target: Bella. This results in the unlikely allying of the vampiric Cullen family and the werewolf Quileute clan, who join up to defend Bella from the bloodthirsty onslaught.

But the possibility of death isn't the only thing on Bella's mind: she must find out why she can't remove Jacob from her life and whether she feels that "something more" that he does.

Meyer's writing was brilliant in the series' predecessors, Twilight and New Moon. She doesn't fail to impress with Eclipse, combining heart-breaking romance with pulse-pounding action, with an occasional romantic, mushy moment for flavoring. Even those who are unfamiliar with the first two books will fall easily into Eclipse with the series' facts stuffed into the first chapter. Though the entire series keeps a much better story, Eclipse easily stands on its own as a classic tale of evolving love and brutal war.

****SPOILERS****

this book was a bit of a rollercoaster for me. some parts of it i got annoyed with and parts of it i loved.

it's the third installment in the twilight saga, and the longest so far.

my likes-
the history! we finally get some real background into the characters! we lear why rosalie has issues with bella, jasper finally get a starring role and the history of the werewolves is explained in more detail.

the ending! ugh- it had me in tears, but i loved it! i am so torn between edward and jacob. i have been team edward without a doubt until the ending of this book, when jacob leaves and you get the chapter from his point of view. so heartwrenching!

my dislikes-
bella, shut up already! jacob, shut up already! charlie- get a personality!

i can not stand the charlie character in the books. hes so stupid. i get that hes raising a daughter on his own and doesnt want to know- but come on. give him some credit. and he is a total jerk to edward. i like him so much better in the movies.

bella- she's getting too whiny for me. i have to kind of tune her out in parts. i know shes a typical teenage girl, ..maybe she reminds me too much of myself when i was that age, lol.

jacob- he just gets too be too much of a jerk in so much of the book. stop forcing yourself on bella already. stop doing crappy things. be more like a hero and maybe shell want you. ugh!

with all of that said, im still in love with edward, hes way too good for bella (she should chose jacob- theyre a perfectly whiny couple) i cant wait to read breaking dawn.

This was probably my favorite in the series. The humor and the drama both captured me. This book is a good set-up for the next.

I continue to enjoy the journey of Bella, Edward and Jacob. It was slow at parts but over all a page turner. Very exciting read.

One of the best books in this series of four. A must read for vampire lovers.

The third installment of the Twilight Saga is my favorite. Stephenie Meyer is a great story teller and has the inate ability to write a love story without giving all of the nitty gritty details. Though the love scenes are rather tame, this book is not for younger children as the violent story line can be a little graphic.

The werewolves and the vampires must decide how they are going to protect Bella from Victoria and an army of new vampires.
