Block weaves another masterpiece, as she tells the story of echo, the girl underfoot of her mother, the angel. It's certainly more than just about echo, but also about how her mother came to meet her father, her dealing with lifes troubles, and some love in between..

Lyrical and poignant -- a YA novel about a young girl's coming of age, dealing with her father's death and her mother's suffocating beauty, with unrequited love and difficult friendships, in Los Angeles where magic and neon lights exist side by side.

Echo is about a girls journey of self-discovery and trying to escape the shadow of her mother.

So I just finished reading this book and I personally thought it was all right. It is one of those quick reads for the typical female teenage audience. Spoiler alert: The book is supposedly about this girl named Echo with the perfect mother and the father who worships the mother like a goddess (and also dying). On the back of the book it claims that publisher weekly called it a "Exquisitely wrought coming-of-age story" I found it simply as this about this girl who just didn't know how to handle her mother's perfection and her father's death so she went "dancing" for boys, in other words sleep with them. Even though the story felt a bit too hoeish on the protagonist's behalf, I still loved how it was written. There were times were I got confused on what was going on but it is just a matter of rereading it to understand certain parts. I also liked its magical like tone that it had.
