Jack Reacher is a loner -- always will be. As he catches rides with his thumb he has long stretches of boredom sprinkled with short periods of intense excitement. Often these are when his life is in danger, or he is struggling to right a wrong, or perhaps trying to come to grips with his past, or future. Echo Burning is all of this -- and more.

Book 5 in the ongoing series is a step up from Books 3 and 4 -- Book 3 because it tried to be a romance and thriller; Book 4 because it tried to be a mystery. Echo Burning starts a bit slowly with a long build up intended to feed you information for later. Once past this section the story moves along quickly and will easily keep your attention.

If you are listening to the unabridged CD version, it is 11 discs long, and Dick Hill narrates with his familiar voicings. Aside from needing a little work on his little girl voice, he manages to keep each character's dialog seperate to the listener. I recommend the audio for anyone taking a car trip in the near future.

Overall, this book is well constructed and should hold your attention.
