'I have waited this long for Mr Right to turn up and I'm not about to start dropping standards. I'm not shallow; they don't have to be rich or good looking. But they MUST be funny, intelligent, sensitive, cultured, kind, sharp, preferably Jewish, popular, socially integrated, non-possessive, easy-going, accepting of me and my past, reasonably ...  more »

The title is misleading- or perhaps I am not as conservative as some of the other reviewers. Book is totally chick-lit, should not be tagged as erotica. It is basically about a woman who decides to stop having one night stands- and instead seeks out a real relationship. She goes through a series of disasters before finally finding the "right" one. I like the book. I liked it enough to read a couple of times. It totally has a sweet, happy ending.

Gold's nameless female protagonist is outspoken, sometimes crude, confident, and single. Finding a boyfriend or husband who meets her criteria--handsome, smart, Jewish, financially secure, fun, and sexy--has been no easy task. While she roams the Jewish singles scene in London with girlfriends who are also unattached, the narrator begins to understand herself better. Why does she continue to practice law when she doesn't enjoy it? Why does she shy away from attractive, grounded, serious men and instead pursue sexy but commitment-shy boys who cannot grow up? Why does she like the drama so much? As with most modern single-women tales, Gold's heroine cannot find a husband until she finds herself, but she acquires many funny (if sometimes frustrating) stories. Gold rarely mentions married life as she fills the narrator's world with singles, some looking to settle down, others just looking for a good time. Readers will enjoy this tale full of raunchy humor, alcohol, drugs, and late nights, as well as the heroine's diatribes on solo life in a big, cosmopolitan city.

The 30-something female narrator of this book sets out to answer the question: Why aren't relationships ever just easy? This book is a light, fun read. If you like the Sex and the City TV series, you will find this book enjoyable.
