Like all Kaplan's books, Eastward to Tartay is dense but informative. Kaplan covers both the obscure and the notorious in his travels through the region. Mixing personal anecdotes from past and present, historical background, and firsthand accounts, this book is an excellent starting point for those wishing to explore any of the countries covered.

After reading one of his books, I always realize how much more I have to learn.
