I was given this book by a friend. I was hesitant as it was not my usual genre. But holy cow!!!!! This is a read I couldn't put down. Barbara Brickmore includes it all, History, family romance and anything else you could think of. A must read!!

Wow, I just loved this book! I'm not usally a romance reader but when it is based in historical fact and such interesting subject material, I was quickly hooked. A young independent woman follows the man she loves to Arica where they run a hospital and and bring healing to the natives in the Belgian Congo. Very well written and a great story. The book follows the life of the protagonist over 60 years, where you also meet her daughter and her granddaughter; al very strong women ahead of their times. The male heroes seemed a little too perfect to me, but the situation around them is fascinating. Definitely worth the read. It's one I'm passing on to my closest friends.

The story of three generations of women in the medical field in Africa in the 20th century. A very good family saga with a lot of side characters that I liked as much as, if not more than, the main characters. I learned more than I ever knew about the geography and rich history of Africa.
