This is a must-read for any Ohioan or Ohioan-at-heart. Ohio's own Louis
Bromfield won a Pulitzer for this story of early 1900's elite life in New England. Complex characters appear to have it all in the eyes of society, but their troubles are as realistic as any ordinary family's. The protagonist is especially complex and my heart tugged for her as I pondered her quandry.
