Very enjoyable chick-lit mystery that's readable in one day and contains very practical diet tips as well. The series debut features a plus-size heroine who has a decent self-image but is still surprised to find men are interested in her; I can't help but love that realism. One caveat--this is definitely on the bold side of cozy mysteries, with a bit more innuendo; if it were a movie, it would be at least a PG-13 for adult topics.

The second title, A Killer Workout, is due out October, 2008.

I have been on a cozy mystery kick for a few years now and this one caught my eye as something new to try. Overall, I enjoyed it. Often when I start a new series, I'm disappointed with the first installment. Happily, that did not happen this time. I think this was a very strong start to a series. It is a little seedier than I was expecting, but that doesn't bother me at all. :) Also, I must confess that I figured out who was behind everything rather early on and I deduced a big part of the motive as well before the reveal. I don't think it was obviously written, but it is easy enough if you don't fall for all of the red herrings and other misdirections. I will definitely read more in this series.

Cozy mysteries are in general are not gory, nor have explicit sex. This book is about an S&M diet Dr., so it in my opinion crossed the cozy line. The details about the victims bodies also seemed to cross the line. I actually had nightmares, after I read the first half in one night, that a S & M DR had abducted me. How cozy can that be? I loved the book, loved the character didnt care for the gory details or S&M scenes.

Great start to what is no doubt going to be a fun cozy mystery series. Found myself laughing out loud several times. Kate is a snarky, fun, full of life character and I am very much looking forward to the next couple books in the series, which luckily I have sitting right here.
I love the 'diet' tips at the beginning of each chapter that are taken straight from 'The Little Book of Fat-busters by Mimi Morgan'.
Seems like this series will be following Kate on her never-ending struggle to lose weight, which most of us can relate to at one point in our lives or another. The humor that the author uses is fantastic. You can tell that she knows of what she writes.
