Second in the series about Goldilock's Catering. Goldy faces more problems with her catering service. People keep dying after attending her affairs!! Her abusive ex, aka "The Jerk" continues to make her life miserable, the hunky sheriff wants more than she's willing to give and she's still trying to make her catering business successful enough to pay the bills. And more delicious recipes!! A sure-fire winner.

I only bought this book because chocolate was in the title but was surprised when the suspense crept in. Plus all the action and her mention of what she was preparing while trying to solve murder in her head made me so hungry while reading this book. (She has recipes all through the book, total of 10!) The recipes are good, I tried them. The writing is quite good as well. I enjoyed this book and the bright, opinionated caterer.

In this perky mystery complete with toothsome hi-cal recipes, Davidson brings back Goldy Bear, the cherubic culinary sleuth with Shirley Temple curls. Fleeing her abusive ex-spouse, a physician she dubs "The Jerk," Goldy and her teenage son Arch find a snug third-floor refuge in the Aspen Meadow, Colo., mansion of quirky Gen. Bo Farquhar, a retired munitions and terrorist pro who breezily detonates bombs while gardening and bird-watching. As the general's live-in gourmet cook, Goldly still has time to run Goldilocks' Catering and juggle two suitors--attractive psychiatrist Philip Miller and comfortably chubby cop Tom Schultz. Philip's shocking death--he careens off a cliff in a BMW after munching her brunch--casts suspicion on Goldy.

Goldy the caterer #2.

Good book. I had to reread about 10 pages, twice, to figure out the murder. All the facts are jammed together all at once with a whole bunch of action, so it took the rereads to sort through all the loose ends.

Although it took me two tries before I could actually sit down & read & appreciate the story, it turned out to be a good story. I certainly wasn't expecting the twist at the end, and that could be due to my new interest in this genre & not having experience in reading in this genre. I certainly love the recipes that the book includes - the business of catering being the main character's livelihood. Don't read if you're hungry though...I snacked like crazy reading this book! LOL

This is the third Goldy book I've read. The other two were later ones in the series, and I haven't read the first. I think Davidson improves as the character grows, but I learned more of Goldy's background with this one. As with the other two, there are a couple of recipes I want to try out.

It isn't necessary to read them in order, but reading the earlier ones explains some references made in later ones.

I don't read mysteries often, and this is my first with this author (I've been given three more!) Great surprise! Goldie, a newly divorced (from an abusive man she calls the 'Jerk'), is trying to start up a small cartering business in a small Colorado community. Along the way, she witnesses the sudden death of a new beau. While investigating the 'accident', things are not what they seem!
A great, easy read! Lots of humor; none of the intense, sometimes grafic detail in others I've read, (like Johnathan Kellerman, who I do love!) To top it all off, there are several real recipes to cook up! Bon Appetite!

When Arch vanishes, Goldly panics, but the author makes sure that all enigmas wind up in solutions that will surprise and please.

I am really enjoying the Goldy cozies. This is the second book in the series. Although the way the person in this book is murdered seems highly implausible, it IS a cozy after all. So take it with a grain of salt, as they say. It is still a very enjoyable read, and I have to say that I did not figure out who "dunnit" and was quite surprised in the end. Love all the plot twists and turns!

At the grocery store I bought ingredients for Chile Relleno Torta, as well as avocados, mushrooms, and baby lettuces for salad. Back at the Farquhars I spread everything out and began to get out pans to grease. My cooking concentration began to rev up, like the adrenaline some athletes claim after the first mile. Then the security gate buzzed.
"Yes," I said into the speaker. The closed-circuit camera showed two men in a dark sedan.
"Goldy Bear?" asked one of them. "We would like to talk to you." Police officers.
I said, "I am unbelievably busy."
"Just a few questions."
"May I cook while you ask things?"
"We'd rather you'd take some time out."
A pause. They looked at eachother.
"You can cook," said one.
I buzzed them through. A moment later, I openedthe front door and drew my mouth into what I hoped was a threatening pucker. "My business isn't in jeopardy, is it?"
"If we can just talk to you, Ms. Bear, we should be able to get some things straightened out."
"Right," I said as I turned to walk down the hall to the kitchen. "I can't wait."
