Portia (who we meet in book 1) has turned over a new leaf. She quit drinking as her coping mechanism and has taken an internship in Scotland to learn sword making. This fits with what she studied in college. She has yet to find something she truly loves. She feels like a disappointment to her parents and sister (Reggie).
Tav is a swordsmith. He inherited an old, historic building that needs a lot of upkeep. He isn't the best about promoting/advertising his work and as a result, he is running in the red. He is guff, set in his ways, and a bit crabby/judgemental.
I really liked Portia. She was super hard on herself and struggles to truly fit in. It helps her when she realizes she has ADHD and establishes a way to cope/live better. It is Portia, with her sleuthing capabilities and love of history that she discovers Tav's biological father. This opens up another set of issues that must be dealt with.
Tav was much harder to like. He was downright rude and dismissive of Portia for about 1/3 of the book. In part, because he is attracted to her (whatever).
I liked the flow until the last couple of chapters. The last couple felt rushed and abrupt. An epilogue would have been nice.
