I am one of Lansdale's fans on his Hap series. I did read THE DRIVE-IN all the way thru; it was sort of like an inability to turn away from viewing an auto accident in progress.
It did have a faint flavor of Hunter Thompson's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, just because DRIVE-IN was just so damned weird.
For me, imminently forgettable.
