Incredible story. Took me away to another era and time I haven't understood. Some of the story was very hard to read and made my heart sad. I felt pain, joy and triumph along with the characters. Great read! Enjoy!

Even if you haven't read Shanghai Girls, you can enjoy the semi-sequel of their daughter Joy. A rebellious girl, she goes back to China to find her past, with great distain for her mothers for ever leaving. She arrives in the heyday of Red China, the late 50's, and the tale is just amazing, heartbreaking, and dare I say, even better for me than The Good Earth. What some people suffer just to live is awe-inspiring.
Beautifully read by Janet Song, as usual.

Very good. Well narrated. Definitely read the first one before the sequel though. Fascinating insight into communist China.
