This book was my "bible" as an art teacher.
Its companion is equally great.

This book is fabulous if you think you can't draw. A friend of mine recommended it to me. She is a wonderful artist. I actually was able to draw a portrait after reading this.

Great book for learning to draw if you think you can't - or for improving your skills - or for learning to teach others to draw. I never thought I could draw, but it has helped me. It has also helped me to teach my youngest child, and has been useful to my teenager, who has used it to teach herself.

This book is not for me.If you are serious about learning to draw, it will help.I was looking for a step be step picture help. This discusses lines and shapes and even handwriting. It does use some pictures, but not the kind I have the patience for.

Excellent study guide. Using this as an approach to negate the fear of the blank page, and have found it to be as good as the reviews that preceded it. Each person who is building courage around their own ability should have this book on the shelf.

Good book for new drawers. It tells how to draw and tricks for drawing portraits, human hands and other difficult tasks. She discusses the right and left side of the brain and how it works for artistic endeavors/

This book will help the new artists and has methods to do hard drawing tasks and exercises.

Edwards believes the key to learning to draw is teaching oneself to see with the unconscious mind. In drawing a picture that is upside down you must rely on what is unseen as much as what is seen-making a conscious mental shift from using your logic (left side of the brain) to using your Muse (intuitive, subjective self/right side of the brain). Her lessons attempt to train the individual to unleash the power of the subconscious brain.
