"How can I persuade every intelligent person to read this important and elegant book? He talks about all kinds of things; the why of the pain of human childbirth - the reasons for sleeping and dreaming - chimpanzees taught to communicate in deaf and dumb language - the definition of death - cloning - computers - intelligent life on other planets - FASCINATING - DELIGHTFUL!" A little dated, but fascinating. And most of his predictions are on the mark. Really makes you think about the rest of his ideas.

Very thoughtful and fascinating book. He made you think about ordinary things in a new light. The only part that was uninteresting to me was his speculations on computers in the future. This book was written in the 70's so computers have come a long way since this book was published. Although he was right about how far computers would come. It was amusing though to learn about what computers were like in the 1970's.

Mr. Sagan makes brilliant connections for our current stage in evolution. The genius of some of the ideas is stunning, and it is clearly written for almost anyone to read. If you are curious about human brain evolution or science in general, you should be sure to read this book. Chapter two was a bit tough to get through, but after that, it is easy and enjoyable reading.
