This is Book 2 of the Rain Wilds Chronicles.
While this is the second book in the series, it is really just the other half of Dragon Keeper. The story picks up right where it left off, and we find ourselves, once again, on the long, slow march up the Rain Wild river. In truth, it is really just more of the same. Hobb is continuing with the painfully slow character build, and she is finally letting us taste a hint of plot progression.
Fortunately, the story starts to pick up by the last third of the book, but it took a lot of work to get there. Hobb is asking a lot, even of her most dedicated fans, by getting this series off to such a slow start. I am hoping that the story (and the dragons) will be taking flight soon.
