I really like Walter Mosley's books and this one could be the beginning of another series for him. Characters were developed well and would be interesting to see where else he could take them. I recommend it.

Agree with the statement of another reviewer that I got tired of reading what color the characters were. I saw that this book was nominated for the Edgar Award 2019 and that was what made me read it because aren't those supposed to be the best MYSTERIES? I was looking for a really good mystery to read. But this didn't feel like a mystery at all-more like a typical sad P.I. story mixed in with police procedural and not a who done it at all. I didn't care for the writing style. I guess I could say the plot was good and complicated layering one boss, then his boss, etc but even that didn't do much beyond complicate a lot of names. Sorry if I'm offending any Walter Mosley fans out there.

One of the worst I've ever tried to read--

So many characters you just can't keep them straight or know what part they play in this mess

The story was just confusing and I never did understand what was going on and finally just didn't care

Too much emphasis put on who was black and who was white, I mean does it really matter? and I got very tired of having 'the color of chocolate', 'white as a sheet' or 'caramel color' thrown into every page, for me it doesn't matter so why put emphasis on it?

Overall I'd say skip this one it is just a mess!
