One of the best of Parker's efforts. Not a Spenser mystery. It follows the return of Joseph Burke to civilian life after WWII, and his eventually becoming bodygaurd for Jackie Robinson during Robinson's first year in the Majors. Tightly written, excellent dialog, nice interweaving of stories from three different points of view.

Typical Parker read-- concise, hard hitting, slam dunk writing. Quick read like most of his books. Good ending. I liked the book.

Parker is my favorite writer. This book really proves how very versatile he is. I've only read mysteries by him, and this book is totally different from anything else he's written. I read it in one day, and I LOVED it!!

The story of a war veteren who is hired to protect Jackie Robinson when he becomes baseballs first Negro player. Very good story

Typical Robert Parker book; fast paced, not a lot of detail. Really great baseball facts and stories. Awesome how Parker intermixed the fictional tale with the facts of Jackie Robinson's historic move to break the color barrier in baseball. Fast and easy read. Spencer style of story.

Fictional account about bodyguard of Jackie Robinson. The bodyguard is a WWII vet dumped by his ex-wife. Imaginative with exemplary characterization. Parker at his best! This will appeal to both Parker and baseball history addicts.

Very different from most Parker books, but a great book nonetheless.

1947 jackie robinson breaks the major league color barrier...and changes the world. The event also changes the life of Joseph Burke, his bodyguard. Under the media...truths are easier than ever to see,and harder to escape. A grand slam

In 1947 Jackie Robinson broke major league baseball's color barrier and changed the world. The event also changed the life of Burke, Robinson's bodyguard. Very interesting novel.
