Typical Parker read-- concise, hard hitting, slam dunk writing. Quick read like most of his books. Good ending. I liked the book.

One of the best of Parker's efforts. Not a Spenser mystery. It follows the return of Joseph Burke to civilian life after WWII, and his eventually becoming bodygaurd for Jackie Robinson during Robinson's first year in the Majors. Tightly written, excellent dialog, nice interweaving of stories from three different points of view.

Parker is my favorite writer. This book really proves how very versatile he is. I've only read mysteries by him, and this book is totally different from anything else he's written. I read it in one day, and I LOVED it!!

Very different from most Parker books, but a great book nonetheless.

Typical Robert Parker book; fast paced, not a lot of detail. Really great baseball facts and stories. Awesome how Parker intermixed the fictional tale with the facts of Jackie Robinson's historic move to break the color barrier in baseball. Fast and easy read. Spencer style of story.

Fictional account about bodyguard of Jackie Robinson. The bodyguard is a WWII vet dumped by his ex-wife. Imaginative with exemplary characterization. Parker at his best! This will appeal to both Parker and baseball history addicts.
