CSI fans will not be disappoint by "Double Dealer". It reads like a great episode, made all the more enjoyable with some character insights not often explored on the television show. The ending is well done and satisfying.

i bought the csi book on a whim as i like the show. the novel is a new story - not previously on tv- it's well written [apparently collins does a lot of tv/movie take-offs] and i learned some things about the characters and the forensic business i didn't know from show. it was NOT overly gross or graphic or icky and i wasn't scared to read it when alone, LOL. i do recommend, and actually joined this group to find more!

Max is good writer; having taken Shamus and Edgar awards for his works. His original graphic novel was made into the Tom Hanks vehicle, Road to Perdition. Recently, he's turned to novelizations. His version of Clint Eastwood's In the Line of Fire was better than the movie.
This, his early entry into his CSI original novels, is a solid police procedural/physical evidence stlye mystery. The charachters, whom I've never seen on TV, seem well written with bits of their life entering the story in an appropriate manner. With the cast of 4 CSI's, one supervisor, and two dectective/police, this is no easy task. I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading some more new Max, now that I've found him again.
I also recommend his Eliot Ness series of historical novels is also very good. Some of his stories take place near his home along the Illinois/Iowa border of "Quad Cities": Moline, Rock Island, etc; a metropolis that rivals large cities in size. Enjoy

Another great CSI book. This one where two murders fifteen years apart are strikingly similar.

CSI: DOUBLE DEALER by Max Allan Collins: Even in Las Vegas, Wednesday, 5:30 AM: in an out of the way hotel should be fairly quiet. This one is until a room service waiter discovers a corpse and a killer. This brings homicide detective Jim Brass, CSI team leader Gil Grissom and his team - Catherine Willows, Warrick Brown, Nick Stokes, and Sara Sidle. Their efforts toward solving this murder lead them to re-look at a case that occurred some fifteen years ago that bears the same double-tap signature. This draws the attention of FBI agent Rick Culpepper. With this much horsepower combined with cutting edge scientific technology, you know it wont take long to solve the crime, or will it?

With all the charm and characterizations of the television show. I pulled this book out during a lull in the action at a swim meet. I was completely drawn into the story. My particular copy is the first printing and has a great picture of the CSI characters on the front which was nice.

Meet the little known and even less understood heroes of police work in Las Vegas - the forensic investigators. Led by veteran Gil Grissom, the remarkable team assigned to the Criminalistics Bureau's graveyard shift -including Catherine Willows, Warrick Brown, Nick Stokes, and Sara Sidle - must combine cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned savvy as they work to untangle the evidence behind the yellow police tape. DOUBLE DEALER Wednesday, 5:30 AM: in an off-the-strip, somewhat-out-of-the-way casino, a room-service waiter rounds a corner and stumbles across a killer - and a corpse. Homicide detective Jim Brass summons Grissom and company to the scene. As Brass follows his instincts, Warrick and Sara follow evidence the killer left behind, and Nick and Catherine investigate a murder that's fifteen years new. Although focused at first on the perpetrator's deadly double-tap signature, Grissom will soon make the most troubling discovery of all: the inexplicable interest of FBI agent Rick Culpepper.
