Portis writes well written stories about misfits put in extraordinary situations. Somehow he never talks down to them or makes fun of them, even though the situations are somewhat outlandish, you can see how...sure that could happen! I love the optimism in the face of sure disaster that his character possess and the way they can see the trees and have no clue there's a forest.

An interesting story for easy read about this character Midge who is in the mid-twenties embarking on trip to get his wife and his car back from his acquaintance that stole both. He makes interesting observations about the characters he meets.

This book may not be profound, but will not bore you.
